Is it time to sunset `build-type: Make`?

There's already a comment in Distribution.Make saying "perhaps we should stop pretending it still works", preceded by an observation that almost all known packages as of when it had been written had already been converted to Simple. Maybe it's time to drop it, since nobody even knows if it still works.

Good point. A double-check that nothing on stackage uses it would be great.

So, while I haven't tried Stackage yet, 01-index contains only 4 packages which use it and I think all are either ancient versions or haven't been maintained in years. Verifying this will require Hackage to come back up.

Actually, just vetting it against a cabal.config from Stackage latest nightly was good enough. There remain two to check manually when Hackage allows, neither of which is in Stackage: adblock2privoxy ==1.2.* and lvmrun ==1.0. I suspect they're both defunct.

(The #1 user by number of cabal files is wxcore, which I think has been dead for close to a decade. Latest version matching is 0.11.1.2.)

lvmrun not updated since 2014, wxcore not updated since 2017 by which time it was 0.92, not 0.11. adblock2privoxy was last updated last year, but as version 2.3.1; 1.2.2 was back in 2014 and it looks like it was immediately superseded by 1.2.3 which used build-type: Simple. (Information from flora.pm since Hackage is still down.) I think we can conclude nothing relevant on Hackage uses it.

wxcore somewhat lives on here, and currently uses build-type: Configure.

Being less than certain about where build types have their pesky fingers in the source, I'm not sure I could do it readily — that said, I'm even less certain Copilot could do any better, and at least I'd get and pay attention to build errors.

But I don't know when I'd be able to get to it, either.
