Sketch on Object Faces & Faster Face Alignment Workflow #195

Thanks a lot, Dany - that's kind of you to say. Sketching on a face already works in two steps: put the workplane on the face (the "Set workplane" button in the camera bar and click the face, or Shift+W for the face of the selected part), then open Sketch. You draw as you look at that face, and the finished body stands on it. Cruise is a good point, though - right now a new shape lands on the current workplane, not on the face under the pointer. I'll add it the Tinkercad way: a new shape slides over the surfaces under the pointer and lines up with the face it's on, sloped ones included, and C picks up the selected parts and sets them down on another face the same way. I'll post here when it's out. If you find layerling useful, a small donation helps me keep improving it. Thank you! 🙂 |

Hi,
First of all, I would like to say how impressed I am with the pace of development.
Layerling keeps improving with every release, and it is becoming more capable very quickly.
I have a question about a possible future workflow improvement.
One workflow that I use a lot in Tinkercad is placing a workplane on any face of an object and then creating a sketch directly on that face.
This makes it very easy to add or cut shapes exactly where they are needed.
One feature that I use a lot in Tinkercad is the Cruise function.
By pressing C, I can quickly place an object onto a face of another object, including angled surfaces.
For example, placing a cube directly onto the sloped side of a pyramid automatically aligns it to that surface.
I know that similar results can already be achieved in Layerling using the Workplane tool, so this is not a missing capability.
However, the Tinkercad workflow feels a little faster and requires fewer steps.
I was wondering if a more direct "place and align to face" workflow is something that might be considered in the future.
This is not an urgent request, and I certainly do not want to put any pressure on development. I am simply curious about your thoughts, especially since Layerling is evolving so quickly.
Thank you again for all the amazing work and continuous improvements.
Best regards,
Dany
