Took an update today on the web version and you lose your back history.

@gquiring, I am sorry, let me find out what is missing. Which of these do you mean?

• The Undo steps of a design: Undo is greyed out after the update, though you had made changes before.
• Designs that are gone from the start page.
• The history view (the clock next to undo and redo), which shows fewer steps than before.

Please also tell me the browser and the system, and whether you saw a "new version" message and clicked Save and reload. If you can, send the design as a .lyl file (Export window → LYL) or the ZIP from Bug report in the footer, then I can see what the design holds.

Two things that may help right away: undo steps are saved with the design, up to the number set in the settings under History (100 to begin with), and Back up all on the start page saves all designs in one file, which brings them back if a browser ever loses them.

It's Win 11, Chrome browser. I got the message that a new version was available and I selected save and reload. It's no big deal, it was not a complex design, I just figured it should be mentioned.

@gquiring, thank you, that helps, and you were right to mention it. I tried the same here: a design with several steps, a reload, and open it again, and Undo still had all its steps, so I cannot find the cause yet. If it happens again, please look right after the reload at which one it is (Undo greyed out, a design missing from the start page, or a shorter history view) and tell me; a .lyl file of a design that lost its steps would be the best thing to look at.

@gquiring, thank you for the video, it shows it clearly, and it is not you misunderstanding. Right after Save and reload your design comes back complete, but Undo, Redo and the history view are greyed out. That should not happen: the steps are saved with the design.

I could not make it happen here yet. A design with a bundle and several steps, reloaded through Save and reload, keeps its Undo steps for me. So something about your design or your browser differs, and I need your help to find it:

1. Click Bug report in the footer right after a reload that lost the steps, and drag the ZIP onto a reply here. It lists the last messages and errors of the session, which may show a failed save.
2. Tell me the number under History in the settings (100 to begin with).
3. Is this a normal Chrome window (not Incognito), and is the disk nearly full? Chrome can refuse to store more data in the browser then.

Until we know more, Back up all on the start page saves all designs in one file, and Export → LYL saves the design with its undo steps.

When it happens again I will create the zip file. It's a normal Chrome session, plenty of disk space (>1tb free). The only thing which I doubt it could be is uBlock Origin Lite. My History in settings is set to 100.

@gquiring, thank you for the video and for the details. uBlock was not the cause. I found it, and it is a bug in layerling: when the last step of a design was made with the workplane on a face, loading the design again compared that step to the base plate, found a difference and threw the whole undo history away. The design itself came back complete, which is what your video shows. A design whose last step was made on the base plate was not affected, which is why I could not make it happen at first.

I fixed it and tried it here: workplane on a face, a few steps, Save and reload, and Undo keeps its steps. It is built, but not released yet. Once it is, please tell me if it is gone for you too. The steps that were lost in your earlier designs cannot be brought back.

@gquiring, the fix is in 1.80.0: a design whose last step was made with the workplane on a face keeps its undo steps when it is loaded again. Reload the page to get it; the installed app needs a restart. Please tell me if the steps stay after your next update with Save and reload. A design that has already lost its steps stays as it is.
