@Joepic9 Good idea, and it fits the installed app well. I have added it: the manifest now declares The check you suggest for the ZIP already happens: a damaged or incomplete .lyl is rejected with an error before anything is loaded. If you'd like to support the project, a small donation is very welcome. 🙂 |

Layerling is a browser-based CAD tool whose native project files use the .lyl extension. There is currently no way to double-click a .lyl file in the OS file manager and have it open in Layerling. This request asks for OS-level file association support via the web app manifest.
Proposal:
Add a file_handlers entry to the web app manifest declaring .lyl (with a custom MIME type such as application/vnd.layerling.lyl) and an action URL that loads the start page and consumes the file through the (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Progressive_web_apps/Manifest/Reference/file_handlers). This would let an installed PWA register as the default handler on Windows, macOS, and Linux — the same behavior a native app provides.
Additional enhancement:
Since .lyl files are ZIP containers under the hood, the handler could unzip and validate the archive on open, surfacing corruption before the design loads.
