What is moss?

Hi there,

I see that your project had its first public commit on November 16th, 2025.

It may interest you to know that the package manager of our AerynOS project (formerly Serpent OS) is also named moss and has carried this name since June 2021.

I don't suppose that, in the interests of not generating confusion between the projects, we could gently ask if you might be willing to reconsider the name of your project...?

I'm not the author, but I don't think this is going to be a problem. There are 5k results (repos) when you search for moss on github and if those don't generate confusion, I doubt this project will. But that's for the author to decide.

I tend to agree with @hardliner66, for a number of reasons:

• There are quite a number of projects already called moss on github.
• Both of these projects are different in nature (package manager vs. a kernel).
• Package maintainers are used to dealing with name conflicts regarding packages (bat, delta, fd, etc).

Having said that, I would be willing to add some clarification and rename it to moss-kernel if that would help?
