History / SunSpec Models Explained

Revisions

  • Kostal: the profile, and the byte order the old note had backwards The Kostal section told readers to set the byte order to big-endian because "SunSpec requires it". Kostal's own manual says to leave it at the little-endian it ships with, and the setting applies to Kostal's float registers, which is where the battery, the house consumption split and every control the integration now reads live. A reader who followed the old advice gets nonsense out of all of them. Kostal also has a vendor profile now, so the section says what it adds and which devices it is for. The PIKO CI is not one of them: Kostal documents its commercial line separately, and the integration keeps the profile off it on purpose. Three pages follow from that. Battery control gained a Kostal paragraph, and an SMA one it was missing since the external power setpoint landed. The model page said the float blocks are never ticked and a device has one encoding or the other; a Kostal serves 103 and 113 at once, and the integration ticks the integer half. The diagnostics reference never described `vendor` and `raw_blocks`, which is what the hardware reports page asks people to send in.

  • Add Node-RED, catch the rest up to the 2026.10.0 release Node-RED workflows page, same three recipes as the n8n one plus the direct websocket state trigger n8n has to relay through a webhook instead. The battery and export docs have moved since the wiki was written: block 124 no longer needs the write beta, only the export limit and grid connection still do, and Fronius, SolarEdge and SMA each got a vendor profile with its own doc page. Battery control, vendor notes, the FAQ, the model reference, the diagnostics reference and the polling deep dive now say so.

  • Fill the wiki: recipes, reference, under the hood Sixteen pages plus a sidebar. Recipes for the energy dashboard, export limiting, battery control, alerts, dashboard cards, n8n and a Modbus proxy. Reference pages for the SunSpec models, entity naming, the diagnostics file, vendor notes and hardware reports. One deep dive on polling. Everything already in the README or docs/ is linked, not repeated.
