One question, since you're on a 2026-May Juniper RWD (so post-SOP10): if you're set up to look, can you confirm on your car that pins 4–5 on the right port are populated (violet) and 13–14 empty? A single real-world confirmation of the date cutoff vs. the schematic would be valuable, and I'll cite it. Either way I'm crediting you in the HARDWARE.md update. |

A plain-language summary of the change to the diagnostic (OBD/CAN) port on newer Berlin- (and US-/Shanghai-) built Model Y vehicles. All technical data is taken from Tesla's official electrical reference (service.tesla.com) and verified by comparing multiple production versions (SOP6–SOP11).

The "the socket changed / the CAN bus changed" rumor going around forums is half true, half false. The reality, in one sentence:
The connector itself did not change. What changed is which CAN bus is wired to which pin inside it — and one CAN bus was removed from this port entirely and relocated to a new left-side port.

Which vehicles are affected?
The change rolled out factory by factory, in production batches Tesla calls "SOP." Per Tesla's official schematics, the build dates at which the new layout (new pinout + left port) begins:
So Tesla split diagnostic access into two:
Interesting point: the left port uses the same connector as the right port (same part number). That means an old, unmodified cable physically fits either port.
4) What does this mean for aftermarket devices?
(For CAN-connected devices like the S3XY Knob/Commander, ScanMyTesla, etc.)
A CAN feature depends not on "the pin" but on which bus carries which message. Because of that:
For DIY: Because the old car's cable connector fits the new car, moving the terminals from pins 13–14 to 4–5 (a repin) plus updating the device to current firmware gives the same electrical result as the cable the manufacturer now sells for new cars. If Chassis-dependent features are wanted, a separate cable is run from the left port (X177).
