Support ext-background-effect-v1?

That spec would be awesome to have supported in Hyprland!
The reason i'm asking is for, say, the effect of having a rounded notification where you want to blur the background and put a shadow around the blurred rectangle. That spec allows defining precisely what to blur.

Unfortunately that spec, despite it's name, is only for blur. and doesn't provide more effects like shadow. But as hyprland already has the ability to draw shadow, i'm guessing it would work just fine.

It's more specific. IT allows the app to specify the region it wants to have blurred. That region can be (and in most cases is) the apps background. But it's not limited to that. It can also literally poke holes in the regions or make arbitrary shapes. The blus is confined within that region you specify.

This is the spec that allows your fully transparent dialog to be blurred and still have a drop down shadow too. That's currently not possible.

and how does that work? does it use the hyprland default blur, or can the app specify how strong it should be?

I would assume @vaxerski (or whoever implements this) just takes the current blur path and uses it on the region that is specified. Technically it's not even that difficult. The current blur just blurs and bleeds (larger then the area you want) and then there's tricks to clip it so that it doesn't bleed. The region can essentially be used as clip mask. At least, that's how i'd look at it when i would try to implement it. Bit i won't this is a little above my knowledge level.

Functionally to you it would probably use the exact same config flags you already know.

This is all just guessing! Well, let's call it an educational guess.
