xdg-session-management implementation

Last week the long discussed protocol was finally merged. This way session restoration would be possible, which would be really cool in Hyprlandy

Session restore has been one of the biggest missing pieces on Wayland for a while. Now that xdg-session-management is merged, are there any plans to support it in Hyprland? It would make restarts more convenient.

what would the support even entail? Only use I can see is floating environments.

I was mostly thinking about restoring open apps and basic window state after a restart. Not sure how well that maps to a tiling workflow though.

using the session restore functionality of other apps maybe (like browsers, terminals or even tmux) and assigning the restored windows to the correct workspace would be a huge one. maybe implement it like an extension to hyprland like hyprlock and then have popular plugins for other programs in optional dependencies listed in package managers. I don't know how wayland protocols are done - i don't even think this needs any protocol

the primary issue it would solve imo is that currently there is no clean way to put different browser windows (of the same profile/process) into the workspace they were in before the browser was closed. there are probably other apps that have a similar issue, but i definitely know people that use like 5 browser windows that would appreciate this lmao.
in general it would be nice to have an easier way to automatically put windows into the workspaces they were in before at least.
restoring floating windows to their pos / size would be neat too.

I created a session manager (https://github.com/joshurtree/hyprsession). I am currently in the process of porting it over to being a plugin. I will look into implementing the protocol if I can. I looks doable but it may be a bit funky doing it via a plugin. I currently have to restore the session based on best guess based on window classes and titles so it could be useful in that regard.
