Stable & Most-Used Apktool Version Page

Hi,

First, thank you for maintaining Apktool.

I would like to suggest adding a page on the website that shows:

• The most stable Apktool version
• The most commonly used version by the community
• Known compatibility issues between versions
• Recommendations on when users should stay on an older release

In practice, many of us switch between Apktool versions depending on the APK we are working with. A newer version is not always the best choice for every application, and sometimes a specific APK can successfully decode/build with one version while failing with another.

Having a simple page that highlights the recommended stable version and any known version-specific issues would help users save time troubleshooting and choosing the right release.

For example, I am currently using Apktool 2.12.0 because I encounter an error with v3.0.2 that appears related to issue #4139. While v3.0.2 is the latest release, 2.12.0 currently works better for my use case.

Would it be possible to consider adding something like this to the Apktool website?

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly I don't really see any benefit from it and I'll give some commentary. Outside of the largest reason that I don't know most of these.

• Most stable - We move forward - always the latest. When the latest has a major regression its normally 24-48h until the latest is the most stable again.
• Community version - I don't know and as a maintainer, I don't want to encourage really much use except the latest.
• Known issues - This would be more-so the stricter aapt2 and/or removal aapt1 in v3. If we said "We have a known issue because of x" and didn't fix it, that would be odd.
• Recommendation - Latest.

Thanks for the clarification.

Part of the idea came from looking at how Maven Repository displays version usage and popularity statistics. I thought something similar might be useful for Apktool users when choosing between versions.

In any case, Apktool is a great project, and I appreciate all the work that goes into maintaining it.
