[Feature] Remove Location button in Change Location popup

Hi, it would be great to have a button in the Change Location popup that lets me just remove the location altogether because sometimes you have photos where having a location attached to it is either undesirable or unnecessary.

The way Immich's metadata editing works is by creating a sidecar XMP file, and never changing the original file. Because of that, this isn't really possible to do.

Right, but surely the XMP file can either have no location data, empty exif:GPSLatitude/ and exif:GPSLongitude/ tags, or those tags with valid coordinates, right? So couldn't we make it so empty tags would mean "no location data is supposed to be shown"?

I'd expect empty tags to be ignored/invalid, but if you can test and show that it does what you're looking for (primarily through exiftool, but ideally in other software too) then we can consider this.

I then removed the GPS Latitude, Longitude, and Altitude fields and replaced them with

The result of exiftool -a -G1 -s '-XMP-exif:GPS*' test.xmp is:

So it seems to work to put empty tags in there.

What if the original file has no location data, but once has been added manually from within Immich, i.e. only having location data in the XMP file. It should be possible to revert this to having no location data again, no?

+1 for this.

Recently I discovered another great tool Dawarich. It's a selfhosted alternative to google timeline. Dawarich integrates with the Immich API to search for pictures without location data and can update them based on your location history.

However, since I already added a location manually to most of my items, Dawarich ignores them obviously.
The only solution now seems to be to download the items, remove them from Immich and reupload them which is kind of a hassle.
