It isn't appearing Photos by location

I'm not sure exactly which version it happened.

But I realised on version 2.2.0.

When I search images by location, it's appearing just few photos.
I already run tasks manually on admin, but it brings just 10% of photos with geo location.

At the moment I'm running on latest version 2.3.1

Could you post step by step description of what you do, what you expect and what you actually get?

Also, I suggest the following initial troubleshooting steps:

1. Open in a browser two photos that have geolocation. One that appears in search results as expected. Another one that does not appear in search results, counter to expectation.
2. Compare their geolocation info in UI.
3. For both photos open detailed exif info: replace /photos in URL with /api/assets to have URL like https://my.immich.app/api/assets/LONG-UUID-HERE
   For example

https://my.immich.app/photos/35763aa0-5031-4a5e-b055-d87058aeb51d
->
https://my.immich.app/api/assets/35763aa0-5031-4a5e-b055-d87058aeb51d

Compare city/country/etc.

when I click on Jobs -> extract metadata -> all

it removes the latitude and longitude and others metadata

But when I download the original photo It look like every metadata is there, then maybe it is just on database 👀

Edit: even if I click tree dots on top right -> refresh metadata

I just tested with an photo from 2021 and the metadata is still there 🙏🏼 then the original photos still contains the infos

There is a known issue #23890 that affects metadata extraction and can explain what you observe. It will be fixed in the next Immich version. I'm wondering if that happens in your case.

UPD. As you already discovered, there is a similar ticket #24520.

Do you see errors like Error reading exif data - BatchCluster has ended, cannot enqueue or Error: timeout: waited 20000ms in the Immich server logs?
If so, then

1. Reduce Metadata Extraction Concurrency in Admin > Settings > Job Settings
2. Restart Immich container.
3. Then try again with a couple of images: tree dots menu -> refresh metadata.
4. Does it fix metadata for those images?

Otherwise to diagnose the issue:

1. Start Immich and Redis containers afresh: docker compose down immich-server redis ; docker compose up -d
2. Set Verbose logging level in Admin > Settings > Logging
3. Select a couple of images -> tree dots menu -> refresh metadata.
4. Post Immich server logs from start till the end of the experiment.

But as I can see most of photos has the metadata extracted I can see like 3k photos in map. and it istill missing 15k photos, I guess in the end will missing one here and other there.

Note: I also changed my redis container as recomended by immich.

Could you run the following command against some affected file to compare execution of exiftool vs exiftool -ee (heavier and causes timeouts):

Basically there are 2 options:

• Wait for Immich v2.4.0
• Patch your Immich: docker exec immich_server sed -i -e 's/exiftool.read.*catch/exiftool.read(path).catch/' /usr/src/app/server/dist/repositories/metadata.repository.js, then restart the container with docker restart immich_server to apply changes

As for reducing concurrency: it may help or not, depends on your hardware (if it's saturated/busy with 2-3 parallel jobs then switching to 1 may help)

Yeah, highly likely you will need to select affected assets and trigger "refresh metadata" in the three-dots menu. Or run "Extract metadata - all" which is indeed more resource/time-consuming. I think "Extract metadata - missing" will not help in this case, but it won't hurt if you try it.
