[Feature] Allow reclustering of all faces of a specific person

The feature

Two of my children are recognized as the same person by Immich, and so I've been trying to split them out. To that end, I've tried manually tagging some of the faces as the correct person in the hopes that future pictures match the correct person. But this doesn't fix the existing photos - and because many pictures have both of their faces, using the 'Fix incorrect match' tool doesn't work as only one of the two faces detected as the one person in that picture should be linked to the new person.

Would it be possible to have an option to recluster the faces detected as being a single person (without resetting other face / person information) using the manually labeled photos as the new core matching vectors?

I don't entirely understand the question, but I believe this button in the detail panel is what you're looking for.


After that, you can run face recognition for "missing" from the admin panel.

Ah, that is a workaround that I didn't consider, however as far as I can tell that is still a photo-by-photo operation. Ideally, I'd like to be able to select a bunch of photos and bulk remove all detected faces from them and then could use the 'rescan missing' option to reprocess them. (I have 20k photos to sort through for these two children, and that's only for a few years of imported pictures.)

@bo0tzz - I got just tested that suggested workaround on one of the affected photos and (unless I missed something) it seems like this isn't enough to make this work. I deleted all faces from one photo, and then reran the 'Missing' option for both 'Face Detection' and 'Facial Recognition'. However, the photo I removed face / people tags from still has no faces detected. I suppose that barring this being an official action, the next best option would be to remove the file from Immich and re-add it to see if faces are redetected.

As for this being a dupe of #10300, I'm not so sure. That feature seems to be 'remove all faces from a picture because I don't care about any of them' (and I could see that also including 'remove all faces that don't belong to named people in a photo'). In my case, I don't want the faces removed but just want them reassigned (e.g., running the DBSCAN algorithm again) based on the updated clustering weights. With the specific use case being to split two people apart by providing manual samples of each of them and re-running the matching logic until recognition is able to distinguish between them. (Though maybe splitting people apart is worth a separate, dedicated UI, which is certainly a much larger feature.)

I suppose I should also try resetting the facial recognition to see if that is better able to distinguish the two of them.

This is exactly the issue I'm facing too. I have family members being merged into a single person, and the current "Fix incorrect match" tool is insufficient when multiple faces from different people appear in the same photo.
The ability to re-cluster a single person's face detections using manually labeled photos as reference vectors would be a significant improvement. Combined with bulk people management, this would make the face recognition feature actually usable for real-world family libraries.
