[Feature] Auto regenerate thumbnail and metadata for modified pictures in external libraries

The feature

I use an external library for organizing Lightroom edited photos. Sometimes I override already exported photos with a new edit. The original photo gets replaced in immich thanks to the external library, but the thumbnail and metadata do not refresh automatically. I have to start the jobs manually. It isn't a big deal, but since Immich is already watching the filesystem for updates I was wondering if it's possible to detect when a file has been modified and send it for new thumbnail/metadata generation.

Immich doesn't detect an edit and replace the asset; it instead treats it as a new file.

I didn't know that. Even in external libraries? I my experience when I override a photo in a filebrowser and open the original full quality photo in immich I can see the changes. However all metadata reflects the old photo.

My workflow:

1. Copy a JPG to an external library folder
2. Immich picks it up
3. Immich creates thumbnail and metadata for it
4. I replace the JPG with an updated version but the filename stays the same
5. I open the photo in Immich -> original full quality photo is updated ✅ , thumbnail and metadata haven't changed ❌
