A dark theme

Appearance is a new row in the dashboard's settings: light, dark, or follow the system — the default when nothing has been chosen. The choice is kept in the browser and applied before the first paint, so there is no flash on load, and the login and welcome pages honour it too.

The dashboard's glass cards and widgets were already dark; they stay identical in both themes. What changes is the chrome laid over them — the top bar, the modals, dropdowns, forms, toasts, the file browser, the App Store, the storage manager. This closes CasaOS #938, the most-requested feature upstream never shipped.

The dashboard on Vue 3

Under the theme, the dashboard moved from Vue 2.7 — end of life since December 2023 — to Vue 3.5, with Buefy 3.1 and Bulma 1.0. Same components, same look: the light theme was compared declaration by declaration against v0.4.46 and did not move, apart from Swiper's own stylesheet. Bulma 1 is also what makes the theme a matter of tokens rather than a fork of every stylesheet.

Fixed on the way

Three things only a browser could show:

  • Every link had darkened to #0a52bd with Bulma 1's contrast defaults; it is the palette's blue again.
  • The focus ring of switches and the placeholder of empty selects had vanished — Buefy 3.1 writes them in a form browsers silently drop.
  • The storage widget's disk summary showed only the disk name in 28 languages: vue-i18n 9 reads | as a plural separator.

A word of caution

This is the largest change the dashboard has had since the fork. It was exercised in a served build against stubbed APIs — login, welcome, the home page, settings, storage, the App Store, an app's settings dialog, the file browser, in both themes — but not on a live CasaOS. If something on your box behaves differently from v0.4.46, please say so in an issue, and reinstall v0.4.46 from its release page while it is looked at.

Components

CasaOS-UI v0.4.37. CasaOS v0.4.42, Gateway v0.4.20, AppManagement v0.4.21, MessageBus v0.4.19, UserService v0.4.18, LocalStorage v0.4.29 are unchanged. Exact commits in components.lock; every package the installer downloads is verified against a digest taken from the component's own release.
