I tried to install invoke but installation is hung up

Got the exact same issue on my Ubuntu 22.04.1 on Intel i5 64 bits with a CUDA graphics card nvidia 2080 (12GB GPU RAM) and with 16GB RAM.
I have Python 3.10.6.
GNU bash, version 5.1.16(1)-release (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu).
My internet connection is not very stable and I had to restart the installation approximately 10 times before finally reaching this issue.

I am running the following command as a non-root user:

pip3 install "InvokeAI[xformers]" --use-pep517 --extra-index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/cu117

And I end up with the following last lines right after the mention of basicsr:

  Installing build dependencies ... done
  Getting requirements to build wheel ... done
  Installing backend dependencies ... -

Note: the last character doesn't rotate. It remains in this position ( or another one) for more than 30 minutes.

I have then to interrupt the installation with ctrl-c and InvokeAI is not installed.

Retrying 10 times doesn't solve anything.

It looks like a recurring issue:

I didn't find much content regarding this on discord installation issues dedicated thread.

I got this exact same issue with this installer:

I tried this command:

pip3 install basicsr --no-cache-dir

and got stuck in a very similar way:

This makes me think that this basicsr package is trying to do something for the installation in a non-reliable way causing this stuck situation.

I wonder whether this is related?

I don't know where the mentioned files are located. I will try to find a solution and post here again if I find any additional information.

This seems to have solved the stuck situation.

The install command finally gave the following result:

Just to clarify, I had to follow the git clone installation instructions of BasicSR:
https://github.com/XPixelGroup/BasicSR/blob/master/docs/INSTALL.md#install-from-a-local-clone

Right after the clone command, I adapted the BasicSR/basicsr/utils/download_util.py file as mentioned here:
XPixelGroup/BasicSR#575 (comment)

Then, I proceeded with the rest of the installations (BasicSR first and InvokeAI then).
