Farm to Desk Bangladesh

Executive Summary

Farm to Desk Bangladesh is a website platform that connects farmers directly with their consumers allowing them to sell their products, unlike the common middleman connecting the farmers produce to the consumer by keeping an enormous figure in profits.

Problem

In Bangladesh the farmers do not earn enough although the products they sell have much higher value in the market. It is because of having multiple middle men in the whole process of selling raw products from village to the market in city. So the small vendor might buy the product from a farmer in a very cheap price and then sell it to the bigger vendor in a higher price. Then the bigger vendor sends the product to the city area or, other districts in the country where that particular product is not available. Then the seller buys the product from the vendor and then sells it to the client. Because of this reason, in the area where a product is produced has very cheap price compared to the areas being sold by the bigger vendors. For example: in Bangladesh raw rice is cheaper in the north region whereas the price goes up in the capital and in the south region of the country.

Initial architecture

As a suggestion/ Template we are given https://www.farmtodesk.com.au . The website is complete in terms of visual representation but it lacks functionality as important as buying something from the website itself, it also has the option of making of your own lunch box, which is also not implemented yet. It has a login database but we highly doubt it has any product database. Basically we will be working based on this and we will implement all the features it lacks in our implementation of the website, which will be Farmtodesk.com.bd

Scope/initial requirements

Farm to Desk BG Organization would like to have this website completed within two months of working days. They also have a limited budget of 2500$. The stakeholder’s goals would be to make the website as famous as possible and make it consistent and handle errors efficiently, The website needs to be advertised among the farmers intensively as the success of this relies on the farmers. We can visualize their need with the business process diagram

Cost Estimation & Funding Strategy

Cost Estimation

Funding Strategy

  • Government Funding - As this system helps the economy of the country and has a massive effect of the rural people,We would be able to get funding from the goverment

  • Online fund raising – We would share about our project across Bangladesh and will look forward for any donations.

  • Bank loans (if necessary)

Risks

Risk management is very important for any project. If we early anticipate what can go wrong, we would be able to handle problems more efficiently. In web development, things always may not work how we intend them to be working. Things can go wrong and we might need to reschedule, delay the limited time frame, which will in turn make the project budget go higher. Therefore, we should have a good enough risk management strategy so that we don’t fall victim to any of these issues. There are many techniques that we can use to find information about potential risks, such as, Brainstorming, interview, Checklist analysis, Code debugging, code analysis, documentation reviews etc.

  1. Some of the farmers in the ground level at Bangladesh does not have access to internet.
  2. In general farmers have low knowledge about technology.
  3. Transporting the raw product from village to the city can be an issue.
  4. Moving to new direction from the traditional business strategy the farmers have.
  5. Giving the product to the customers in the promised time.

Mitigation Strategies

Mitigation strategy consists of three main components called mitigation goals, mitigation actions and an action plan for the implementation. These help us to identify, prioritize and implement actions to manage the risks.

  1. Introduce the use of internet initially to 50 farmers.
  2. Introduce how to use farmtodesk website and post about their product data online.
  3. Initially connect with the farmers who have their own transportation for delivering the product in distant area.
  4. Explain to the farmers how the farmtodesk will be more beneficial for them economically and help to improve their business. A list of the critical project risks, mitigation strategies, and contingency plans.
  5. Making sure there is enough available product to deliver to customer on time and there is back up delivery option for any product.

Contingency plans

These plans involve making decisions about the management of human and financial resources and communication procedures. Contingency planning can be broken down to several questions such as, what is going to happen, what are we going to do about that, and how can prepare for that in future. We use contingency plans when there is a specific threat which is unknown. We can break down the contingency plan into few steps such as Prepare, analyses, develop, implement and review. Contingency plan must be a collaborative effort, in order to be relevant and useful.

Assumptions

Developers make assumptions constantly about the interpretation of requirements, design decisions, etc. These assumptions they make at the beginning of the software development, can differ throughout the development phase.

During the website development we make many assumptions, while doing this we take into factor that we will not face any risks or we will not exceed the allocated budget.

Software development process

For this task a Disciplined Agile Development Process (DAD) will be followed. The following members have for the project is as follows as follows: -

  • Agile Coach – Mrs. Swee Tee Fu
  • Product Owner – Atiq Islam
  • Project Leader – Isal Korale
  • Team Member - Tasdid Hossain

Each of the members in the group are expected to be fully aware of their capabilities and should only take up responsibilities which they can successfully complete. Each member should plan their own work and take responsibility for their actions.

Team Makeup ( Resouring Plan )

For the Distinction task the formation of the group consist of two members from the existing DP1 group and one additional member from another group in the same tutorial class.

  • Atiqul Islam
  • Isal Korale
  • Tasdid Hossain

Budget Constraints

Communication Plans

For Communication purposes we will be using Slack where a new channel will be created especially for the Web Site Development Project Where the team is told to actively exchange ideas and bring up any issues they are facing

Escalation Procedures

A set of procedures set in place to deal with potential problems that may arise, such as if we deal with an excessive demand on the website so the amount of people active on the website is more than the predicted rate, this may cause the servers to crash in that scenario there will be back up servers to ensure the consumer gets uninterrupted access to our website.

Governance Strategy

It is necessary for all team members to use the following development tools such as

  • Trello - For Organizing and distributing tasks
  • Toggl - For time tracking
  • Slack - Communication
