Extra credit assignment

Recent events at Mizzou have drawn attention to problems of inequality on campus, and also drawn attention to the fact that they are experienced differently by different groups of students. Media outlets have reported about everyday experiences of racism that students experience, as well as the events surrounding the Concerned Student 1950 movement and the FGR movements.

Many students in this class have directly covered the protests and Tim Wolfe's resignation, and the ongoing meetings of the board of curators, the football team strike, and other similar events. Generally speaking, the coverage that we've seen has had to work within the existing content management systems of our media outlets, for speed of publishing.

But given that we have new tools that we're learning about in this class, we'd like to ask you to answer this question:

How can design be used to educate the public about inequality?

To answer this question, we'd like you to write a post on Medium (if you're comfortable) or in a private Gist on Github sharing your thoughts about how design can work to educate about inequality. Keep in mind that part of the job of education is creating a space where people feel invited, and safe, to share their stories.

If you're stumped on where to begin, we suggest watching these two videos (or reading the transcripts):

Or this article:

to get an idea of what we're talking about. You can even feel free to structure your essay as a response to any (or all) of the above.
