A quick look at my CO2e post http://127.0.0.1:8012/blog/2026-01-21-unfccc suggests that 1Mt worth of CO2e in the form of methane results in total cumulative heat of about 1000 TJ, whereas Gemini estimates burning it releases 2000 TJ. This seems wrong, because venting is widely considered far worse than flaring, on the order of 100x to 1000x.
The model I'm using for CO2e was built on a lot of assumptions from Gemini, but the model looks like the one used by Sathre 2014... It looks like I'm off by a lot though? Or maybe the energy from combustion somehow escapes the planetary boundary?
