Limo CAD Bevy rc.2 preview — 2026-10-04
Limo CAD's native Bevy preview, built from clean source 9b082687fc2db8c676185c988d4edec801c0ec1a, using Bevy 0.20.0-rc.2 and Rust 1.99.0. Application version remains 0.2.2; the channel identifies this build as bevy-preview-0.2.2-20261004.1.
This replaces the October 2 Bevy preview. The newer source includes the System Light/Dark appearance fix, the Windows title-bar icon binding, preserved finished-sketch Undo/Redo across inactive-tab eviction, updated material catalog normalization and temperature units, and the Rust-only desktop/tooling cleanup. UI and MCP actions use the shared native command and document lifecycle paths.
The native desktop uses Bevy and OpenCASCADE's 7.9 ABI. Tauri, desktop WebViews, React/npm applications and their build tooling are removed from this integration. The separate Bevy WebAssembly host and geometry-service transport remain unfinished; this preview is a native desktop release.
Downloads and checks
- Windows x64 portable ZIP: noBS-CAD-0.2.2-windows-x64.zip
- Ubuntu 26.04 x64 DEB: noBS.CAD_0.2.2_amd64.deb
The Windows x64 package was rebuilt from this exact clean source on Thunder. Both the candidate and installed package passed SDK-free headless and desktop MCP lifecycle checks: automatic live-document binding, real geometry/export, Save, preservation of retained unsaved work, disconnect survival and guarded window shutdown. These checks used private fixture documents.
The Ubuntu DEB passed headless MCP, desktop MCP, X11 native input/render checks and Wayland-desktop lifecycle/recipe checks through XWayland in the tagged desktop package run. The restored-window and Unicode-field captures were reviewed. Both package reports identify the exact clean source and preview channel.
Each attached package has a matching SHA-256 file; SHA256SUMS.txt contains the combined checksums. build-receipt.json records source, package hashes and qualification. The Windows ZIP is the verified local rebuild installed on Thunder. The independently built hosted Windows x64 package also passed headless/desktop MCP and native input/render checks on the same clean source; its restored-window capture was reviewed.
Windows ARM64 and AppImage remain withheld while their tagged build jobs run. macOS built and Developer ID signed, but Apple notarization returned HTTP 403 for a missing or expired team agreement. The Apple account owner must resolve that agreement before macOS distribution. No earlier-source or unqualified package is attached.
Windows packages are unsigned. Extract the whole ZIP and keep its DLLs, licenses and notices alongside noBS-CAD.exe. Windows 11 and a Direct3D 12 or Vulkan-capable graphics driver are required. The matching Microsoft Visual C++ v14 redistributable may be required.
Ubuntu 26.04 x64 uses the DEB package; run sudo apt install --reinstall ./noBS.CAD_0.2.2_amd64.deb when replacing another 0.2.2 installation. Source revision and build channel, rather than version alone, identify the installed build. Package and executable names retain the former noBS CAD name.
Known limits
The integration is tracked in PR #124 and has not merged into main. Main changes remain subject to external review and Jack's approval. The broad validation suite was not run locally for this deployment.
Physical printing, screen-reader speech, 6DoF hardware and monitor/DPI transitions have no fresh device qualification on this source. OpenCASCADE 7.9.3's reported matrix-copy arithmetic issue remains tracked separately; the ABI-changing 8.x SDK migration is outside this release.

What changed since 0.2.1
Linux packaging — the AppImage is now built on Ubuntu 22.04 with a glibc 2.35
ceiling, carries a world-executable launcher and its required Wayland server
runtime, and uses the host graphics-client ABI so newer Mesa drivers can load.
Release CI audits permissions and glibc symbols, then launches the same artifact
on Ubuntu 22.04 and 26.04. These changes address the AppImageHub catalog failure
reported in AppImage/appimage.github.io#6426
(#176).
File interchange — STEP files can be opened directly through File → Open
(#169). 3MF export now writes a standard model package instead of a slicer-project
stub, so Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, Cura and PrusaSlicer recognize the exported
geometry consistently (#166).
Modeling and interface — hole placement uses the picked sketch point on the
support face (#173), and paired form fields remain bottom-aligned when one label
wraps (#175).
Reliability and release engineering — MCP inbox stress tests share one bounded
budget and recover cleanly after a poisoned environment lock (#170); the desktop
lockfile includes the print package (#174); pushed release tags now publish the
artifacts built by that exact run, with version and release-note guards before
any release is made public (#168).
Documentation — the README now leads with the finished product experience,
uses the rendered showcase media, and keeps repository navigation under
docs/ (#172).
Project compatibility
The .nbcad container version remains 1 and the model schema remains 9. Version
0.2.2 opens projects written by 0.2.1 and earlier; projects saved by 0.2.2 do not
introduce a new schema revision.

What changed since 0.2.0
Sketching — face boundaries can be projected into a sketch, with a hardened
projection and tool lifecycle (#147); concentric between a point and a circle or arc
(#144); circle and center-rectangle centers are selectable again (#154); the inline
dimension editor selects its value when it opens (#148).
Native viewport — the ground and sketch grid scale with the view and stay
continuous while zooming and panning (#158); inside-corner edge strokes are lifted
clear of their faces (#161); each document tab keeps its own camera (#159).
Kernel — a fillet or chamfer that would otherwise consume a wall now blends the
edge instead of failing (#160).
Desktop shell — further progress on the interface replacement (#153); native
navigation stays responsive through the modeling lifecycle (#150); an opened project
adopts its file name while the design is untitled (#157).
MCP and agents — feature summary, warnings, check, solid_box and print tools
return useful feedback to an agent (#162); JSONC script includes plus export_script,
distinct from cad_script (#163); grouped help without a desktop document; cam in
the cad_set_focus schema; export_script staleness judged by mutations rather than
by time.
Help and knowledge — one help surface (nbcad-help crate, cad_help tool) over the
machine-design knowledge base, with search, generated inventory and attribution
checks (#145).
Packaging and CI — a shared Windows OpenCASCADE setup action, enforced fast gates,
sharded native tests, and a scheduled workflow that keeps the default-branch ARM SDK
cache warm, so a release tag no longer recompiles OpenCASCADE for Windows ARM64 from
scratch (#146). The release page was also split so installers stay here and media lives
in the companion release.
Project compatibility
The .nbcad container version is still 1. The model schema advanced from 7 to 9:
- 0.2.1 opens projects written by 0.2.0 and earlier; older schemas migrate forward when
the project is loaded. - A build older than 0.2.1 refuses a project saved by 0.2.1 ("not supported") instead of
opening it partially. While the format is pre-1.0, keep the matching build with a
project you care about.

The build films, their loop GIFs and the editable projects bench.nbcad,
vise.nbcad and turbine.nbcad live in the companion
showcase media release,
so this page lists only what you install. The projects were written by this
release's own engine, and the films are the same bytes the
showcase page plays. Open one with
File → Open and its sketches, features and assembly relationships stay
editable; the recipe that builds it is in
examples/scripts.
What is in 0.2.0
Since v0.1.0, main gained 500+ commits. Headline work:
Assemblies — component instances, planar and gear joints with solved driven
coordinates, joint editing in the shared MCP submit map, assembly-preserving
mesh export, and placed assembly views in drawings.
Drawings — associative native drawing export, shared associative dimensions
with stale-topology rejection, and guard rails on drawing associations.
CAM — machine-aware toolpaths and detailed stock simulation, tool-library
and machine catalogs, adaptive clearing, edge-chain selection, linking and
reordering, path progress and stock-surface playback.
Sketch fixes — arcs expose usable endpoints and accept tangency at both
ends (#137), on top of
overconstraint admission, chained perpendicular
residual scaling, stable sketch point rendering, timeline feature editing at its
history stage, and exact native inspections.
Scripts, recipes and presentation — a shared Rust CAD script interpreter
with native script replay over MCP, replayable build recipes for the bench,
vise and turbine, and an editable showcase entry point.
MCP — UI-owned inbox apply, cad_await_apply receipts, window/document
targeting, assembly mutates, STEP import, forward tool-script dump, solid
compare, and attached-session freshness reporting.
Platform and packaging — Ubuntu 26.04 desktop support, Windows ARM64
portable ZIP, desktop packaging decoupled from browser WASM, zh-CN/Spanish/
German UI translations, a project-tab workspace, and the LGPL-2.1-or-later
relicense.
CI and process — host-neutral engine tests on Ubuntu, Windows ARM64
packaging, a classifier that scopes desktop builds to real input changes,
and pinned OpenCASCADE 7.9.3 across platforms.
