This page summarizes direction, not a binding delivery schedule. Issues and milestones are the source of truth for committed work.

Current: v0.1.x

  • Stabilize CLI behavior and error reporting.
  • Improve malformed-input handling.
  • Expand platform validation.
  • Clarify .snout compatibility guarantees.
  • Improve documentation and reproducible benchmarks.

Next: v0.2.0

  • Evaluate chunk-level query skipping using stored min/max statistics.
  • Improve query and aggregation performance.
  • Expand transformations and log workflows where justified by real use cases.
  • Harden the experimental C ABI.
  • Improve release portability.

Toward v1.0.0

  • Define stable CLI and output contracts.
  • Define the supported .snout compatibility policy.
  • Stabilize the C ABI.
  • Establish reproducible performance baselines.
  • Validate supported operating systems and architectures.
  • Complete migration documentation for breaking changes.

Explicitly Out of Scope

SnoutDB does not currently aim to become:

  • a distributed database;
  • a network database server;
  • a SQL compatibility layer;
  • an ORM;
  • a general-purpose transactional database.
