Mise does not offer Gradle 9.0.0 RC1 yet ... it is available on asdf and SDKman

There is not Gradle 9.0.0 RC1 version available with Mise.
I notice when I do: curl https://mise-versions.jdx.dev/gradle
the last version is: 8.14.2

Other tools are offering Gradle 9.0.0 RC1 for about a week now

Pre-release versions will not be listed in the mise-verisons, but you can still install it manually with mise use gradle@9.0.0-RC1.

However, since Gradle changed the asset names, it fails. I reported the issue to aqua-registry. aquaproj/aqua-registry#37885

but also I note that this does return alphas / betas / rcs

For Aqua backend tools, it's intended.

Also, I can confirm that gradle@9.0.0-RC1 cannot be installed even with the aqua-registry fix. I will have a look later.

I fixed the issue in #5385.
Once the PR is merged and a new version of mise is released, gradle@9.0.0-RC1 should be installable. (aqua-registry is automatically updated in the release process.)

Some more data points on this

At some time in the past I was fairly certain that Gradle RC versions did show up in the list (not sure maybe about a year ago)

This is the current state of things:

If use this setting:
mise settings add use_versions_host false
and do:
mise cache c
and then:
mise list-all gradle

I get this list which seems VERY short:

This is expected behaviour.

If you want to list all versions (except for pre-release versions) without use_versions_host, you can set MISE_LIST_ALL_VERSIONS=true.
This is not documented, but it will follow the pagination of the GitHub API.

However, this will increase API usage, which might cause you to hit GitHub API rate limits, so it is generally not recommended.

The reason the version list is short is that the API returns 20 versions per page, but this includes pre-releases, which are then excluded by mise.

Also, before this PR #3903, we used the asdf backend for Gradle, so it used to show all versions.
I think there is no way to include pre-releases in ls-remote outputs.

That makes a lot more sense now. As you said, if I KNOW the exact version name of the RC and use that in the mise install command, that SHOULD work (but didn't with 9.0.0-RC1 due to some file renaming).
That is what you addressed upstream in the aqua registry, and should be fixed with the mise software update, is that right?

Yes, it should be fixed in the next release of mise (2025.6.6).
