AlignNone needed

I have content I wish to display in a table that is already carefully aligned (randomart) with leading and trailing spaces.

What I would like an AlignNone (or perhaps AlignPadRight, AlignPadLeft) that performs no alignment, but possibly pads space to the left or right depending on whether the content is fixed width. (AlignCenter could work if it didn't trim leading spaces.)

What I wound up doing to work around this was a horrible hack. I replaced all the spaces in my content with a substitute character (underscores in my case), then on the output side I have an output writer that replaces the underscores back with spaces.

I'd have just changed your code, but I really prefer to avoid creating a fork.

Doesn't AlignDefault/AlightLeft not work for you? AlignLeft should not strip leading spaces. AlignRight should not strip trailing spaces. Can you share some sample code?

I'm pretty sure align left did indeed strip them. I'm actually using align right though, to create something like this:

What I actually switched to doing is using \u00a (replacing my spaces) because the spacing in that ascii art is significant.

Totally get the ASCII art needs here... let me double check sometime soon. The Align* code itself does not strip spaces... see here - but maybe the table code does.

is there a plan to fix it in the nearby future?
I also experience it, in my case it's about bullet lists with multiple indentation levels being misaligned.

Found the bug. I'm guessing both of you are setting WidthMax to a non-zero value in ColumnConfig. Can you confirm?

Looks like the default WidthMaxEnforcer text.WrapText is messing with the output. For columns like these where you have alignment done, is it really necessary to enforce max width? I'd assume you'd set WidthMin to a non-zero value to ensure the art remains as is, and not set WidthMax as you don't want it wrapped.

To be clear. The overall width is limited and some columns need the wrapping while others do not.

Not sure if you saw my previous message, but if you definitely must setup WidthMax on a Column (which doesn't make sense for a column with pre-aligned, pre-defined content), you might want to setup WidthMaxEnforcer to a custom function that just trims the line to the maximum size you want. Something like the below:
