GenMon App Credentials are not working on my new Z Fold 8 Ultra!

I can access the GenMon App on my old S22 Ultra (Chrome) phone, S9+ Tablet (Brave), and Alienware Laptop (Chrome).

I just got my brand-new Z Fold 8 Ultra. I tried to access the App using Chrome on my new phone, but it will not accept my credentials. I tried many times. I have deleted browsing data in Chrome, but with no success.

Please share with me your insight on what could be going wrong.

On the devices that you can successfully log into, are you typing in the password or is it being filled in with auto-fill / saved password?

If yes, my guess is that you are likely typing in the wrong password. Chrome android is one of the most popular browser and I know of no issues. Since the app is just a web page gennon web app knows nothing of what type of phone / tablet is hosting the browser.

Can you log into the pi with ssh? The ssh user name and password is likely a different from the genmon credintials, unless you set them up to be the same. If you can log into the pi via ssh then you can look at your current user name / password in the config file located at /etc/genmon/genmon.conf. This file holds the main settings or genmon. The add on programs are held in other files in the same folder.

I am trying to find out how to access this file: /var/log/genserv.log! How do you do that? AI is talking about rooting the device. This is the info that I already provided in the earlier chat:

1. Login screen come up, no problem there.

I am not using a stored password. I type them in. The username populates as soon as I put "gen" there.

I use the same password that works just fine on all other platforms except Z Fold 8 Ultra. I am very careful inputting the password. Never had any problems before.

I used both Chrome and Brave to get to the login screen on the Z Fold 8. But the App does not take my password. When I submit, the username and password fields get blanked out!

Z Fold 8 is connected to my home wifi network. GenMon/Pi is connected to U7 AP network. No VPN is enabled.

Typically you would log in to the pi using ssh or some program that allows ssh in a windows app like PuTTY. ssh is a command line tool. If you have never used ssh before then you likely do not know the username and password to log in to the raspberry pi using this method. If you purchased a pi from pintsize.me then you would have to ask them the ssh default username and password. I don't know that that would be.

If you have email setup and working you can submit your logs on the About page and they will be sent to me.

Another option for viewing the log files is log into genmon on a system that you can log in and then use this command:

https://youripaddress/cmd/get_logs

replace "youripaddress with the base url you normally use to access genmon. This will download a compressed archive of all of the log files named genmon_logs.tar.gz. If you uncompress this file it will contain all of the log files. Look for the file named genserv.log

A screen shot of the error you are seeing in the browser and the genserv.log are the next steps.

1. Per your suggestion, I executed the command on my laptop: https://genmon/cmd/get_logs.
2. Saw a tar file generated and placed as a folder under the download directory.
3. Went to genmon running on the laptop and pushed the "send log" button.
4. Accessed the download directory, went into the tar file folder, and extracted all the files into another directory.
5. Went into the extracted directory and saw several text files, including genserv.
6. Clicked on genserv to open; the tab hung for a while and finally came back with that error message. I had never seen that error message before!
7. My laptop was working just fine until I executed that command. I could not open any file. I had to reboot the laptop.
8. After the reboot, went into the download directory, and there was NO tar file directory and no extracted directory. All disappeared.
9. I am concluding that something happened after I executed that command. It turned out there was no need to do that anyway.
10. When I sent the logs to you, Genmon was running on my laptop, my S22 Ultra, and my A9+ tablet. Obviously, it was not running on the Z Fold 8 Ultra.
11. My Genmon web interface is NOT accessible on the internet. When I am not home, I access Genmon using Pintsize.me Cloud!
12. I have shut down the S22 Ultra and the A9+ tablet.
13. I will restart the Z Fold 8.
14. I will attempt to log into GenMon three times using the Chrome browser on the Z Fold 8 Ultra, which will end up with the username and password fields blanked out.
15. I will shut down the Z Fold 8 Ultra.
16. I will go to my laptop, log into Genmon on Chrome, and will send you the logs.
17. There should be information there regarding my attempts to log into Genmon on the Z Fold 8 Ultra.

I got your logs. This one does have three entries for an invalid password plus a lot of other successful logins which I assume are from the pintsize cloud piece.

genserv.log

When you log in to genmon the username and password get passed from the browser to the raspbery pi web server which validates the username and password. The errors in the log indicating an invalid login tell me that the failure is because the password passed to the web server is invalid.

one thing to note: the username is case insensitive, but the password is case sensitive. If caps lock is not you will entry the wrong password.

You mentioned that you are not using saved passwords. Is this the case for the other devices or just the Z Fold 8 Ultra?

Can you log out of one of the other devices and then log back in?

I do not use saved passwords on any of my devices when logging into the GenMon App, including the Z Fold 8. I manually input the password.

Username: As soon as I type the first two letters, the device displays the full username and auto-populates it.
Password: I manually enter the password, and the GenMon App loads successfully.

Password: I manually enter the password, and the GenMon App will NOT load.

If I manually enter the username and password, the GenMon App loads successfully.

Conclusion: Auto-populating the username on these devices introduces an error that causes credential verification to fail. The only difference between these two devices and the other three is the OS version and the Samsung add-on layer, excluding the laptop. This happens only for the GenMon Client interface and nowhere else!

I have three Google accounts accessible on all my devices. One main account stores website logins and passwords. I use the Chrome browser associated with the main Google account to access websites. There has not been an instance where autofill populated the credentials, but the login failed, as long as the credentials are up to date. The only exception has been with populating the username field on the GenMon login page on the Z Fold 8 and S9.

I will validate the autofill settings across all my devices and report back.

ok. within the auto fill settings there is an option to select which google account is used to sync passwords

1. You have solved the mystery. On the Z Fold 8 and S9, the autofill service provider was set to Samsung. I changed it to Google and was able to log in to GenMon by autofilling the username field. On the other three devices, the autofill service provider was set to Google.

2. I used the Smart Switch app to transfer apps, data, and settings from the S22 Ultra to the Z Fold 8. To set up the S9, I logged into the main Google account and got all the apps and other info. I am not sure why the autofill service provider was set to Samsung unless it is a default setting that persists until the user changes it.

3. I updated GenMon and confirmed that you can see the password being typed into the passwd field. Thank you.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter. As mentioned, I use autofill to successfully access websites that require credentials on Windows devices. On Android mobile devices, I access apps, not credential-required websites. GenMon app is accessed through a browser, and it is not a mobile app per se. This experiment showed the importance of selecting the correct autofill service provider. In light of this fact, I suggest that you place a banner on the GenMon login page that alerts users to ensure the correct autofill service provider is set on the mobile device before using autofill to populate credential fields.
