Web Cache Communication Protocol

The Web Cache Communication Protocol (WCCP) is a Cisco-developed content-routing technology that intercepts IP packets and redirects those packets to a destination other than that specified in the IP packet.

Function What it controls Example Devices/Apps
group-address Communication Specifies the Multicast IP used for routers and cache engines to find each other. Multicast-enabled clusters
group-list Security/Filtering Defines which Cache Engines (clients) are allowed to join the service group. Cisco SWA
redirect-list Traffic Selection An ACL that identifies specific user traffic (e.g., HTTP/HTTPS) to be redirected. HTTP (Port 80), HTTPS (Port 443)
service-list Advanced Control (Rarely used/Platform specific) Groups multiple service parameters or defines custom protocol behaviors.
