BaoCut 3.3.0 (Build 67) — macOS and Windows
What's new in 3.3.0
Editable shorts from long videos
- Cut into shorts is now an agent tool with editable settings for scope, count, duration, aspect ratio, framing and subtitles. It starts a new session and creates independent child videos beside the source. Each child retains the parent transcript, existing cuts and supported translations, so you can keep editing and restore material outside the selected range. Shorts tool, editable children.
- The result page shows each short's opening line, selection reason and notes, with rename, open, trim and trash/undo actions, plus Export all using default video-export settings. The parent lists its shorts newest first, showing six before an expandable remainder; Space shows their parent relationship and a parent filter. Result pages survive switching videos within the session. The AI tools setup/result page is desktop-only; shared editing and parent lists are also available on Web. Results and export, ordering.
- Trim and Adjust in transcript open transcript cutting at the clip's leading seam, with a return action to the previous panel or results. Text outside the short is struck out and folded; click a nearby sentence to extend the clip. Restoration keeps adjacent items continuous and extends captions over the restored span. Transcript entry, restoration fix.
Framing and clip reliability
- Automatic framing defaults to speaker placement. YuNet face detection supplies normalized face boxes on sampled frames, and scene-change detection supplies shot boundaries and sample times. The shorts skill uses these to choose a separate crop for each shot, handle interview camera changes and check logos, borders and captions. This is shot-by-shot framing; it does not continuously track a moving face. Face detection, shot detection, framing guidance.
- Derived videos support up to 64 non-overlapping crop ranges. Drag a cropped shot on the canvas to pan its crop window, or apply it to the whole short in one edit. Small uncovered gaps at the clip's edges inherit the first/last crop, avoiding tiny fallback-framing fragments; the shot control stays clear of the video toolbar. Per-shot crops, canvas controls, edge fix.
- Clip boundaries avoid pulling an adjacent word across a short pause. Caption counts now reflect cues visible inside the clip. Legacy translations are upgraded when possible and carried into translated/bilingual caption layers; failures return explicit warnings. Agents can read source-clock sentence timings and the stored hook/reason/notes in derivation results. Boundaries, caption counts, translations, timings.
- Derivation currently targets a single primary media source. Multi-source timelines can produce warnings about ranges or items that cannot be restored, and code compositions are unsupported. Restored footage inherits neighboring shot crops; split loop animations and volume envelopes restart per piece and are reported. Review these warnings when working with complex timelines.
Slides in agent sessions
-
A new slides skill lets agents create and revise editable decks, validate them with the editor's compiler and import local images. Checked decks appear as conversation output cards and as a single Slides entry in Space. Desktop and Web open them in a workspace tab for preview, direct editing and presentation, with PDF/PPTX/HTML export options. Slides.
-
Annotate an element or area and attach up to 20 annotations to a message. BaoCut passes slide locations and comments to the agent, retains them in queued/retried messages, and waits for editor saves before sending. Agent file changes reload the editor; this currently resets selection and scroll position. Annotation location labels follow the interface language; drafts are kept only in the current window.
-
Packages now include the slides editor, its Node compiler, the face detector and its model. Windows release builds and CI also build the slides editor so compiler-dependent checks run. Release preparation.
-
Fixed slide-file change detection after atomic saves. Directory watchers now retain subsequent edits, detect new nested design-system directories and reconcile deleted files. File watching.
Home
- Four colored quick-start cards make common video tasks easier to find, aligned with the template grid. The template shelf is now labeled Video templates, and New blank video sits in the quick-start heading. Home cards, template heading.

Additional validation
The frozen source passed TypeScript and Rust CI: 8,303 TypeScript tests passed with 321 skipped; 3,622 Rust tests passed with 58 ignored. Skipped/ignored tests are not counted as passed. Local validation passed typecheck, the slides-editor build, 16 release-tooling tests, and 33 slide storage/HTTP regression tests after the file-watching fix. Actionlint passed for the changed workflows. The release pipeline also runs the file-watching regressions on each native Windows variant.
The workspace dependency audit reports 9 dependency alerts (1 high and 8 moderate), including image-size and the Electron packaging dependency chain. The local slides editor/compiler bundle-input license inventories do not include these audited modules. These dependency versions remain unchanged; the audit report is retained with the release verification records.

BaoCut 3.2.0 (Build 65) — macOS and Windows
What's new in 3.2.0
AI tools and agent workflows
- The desktop editor has an AI tools tab for transcript cleanup, writing and publishing tasks. Each tool starts with an editable prompt and its built-in skill; add other skills, attach files, and choose a new session or the video's current session. The AI tools tab is desktop-only. AI tools.
- Polish transcript, generate chapters, summarize, write a blog, create titles and write a description can call a text model directly. These runs show progress, results, copy, retry and receipts on the tool page. Polishing and chapters apply one undoable change; writing tools return read-only text. The selected runner and model are remembered per tool. Re-transcription, cut suggestions, stale-translation refresh and covers continue to use their supported agent/model paths. Direct model calls.
- Tool rows show per-video progress, pending cut suggestions, stale translations, chapter counts and the last direct run or its undone state. Edited prompts and attached skills survive switching between setup, results and the tool list within the app session. Done and Back return completed results to the tool's setup page. Status, prompts, skills, navigation.
- Find cuts and Refresh stale translations stay on their tool page after agent handoff, with the latest step, approval requests and an Open session action. After restart, progress reconnects when that task is still active or queued; finished tasks reopen at setup. Other agent handoffs open the selected session with the video beside it. In-place progress, restart recovery.
- One message can carry up to 20 skills, applied in attachment order with duplicates removed. Existing single-skill messages and the CLI's single-skill option remain compatible. The interface language now reaches agents and direct model tools; explicit user language requests take priority. Multiple skills, language context.
- The blog tool can request keyframe illustrations with captions, off by default and available for agent runs. Built-in skills now emphasize useful highlights, standalone articles, evidence-based speaker names, navigable chapters, readable translations and natural cuts. Subtitle guidance preserves the first usable transcription rather than switching models or re-transcribing without user direction. Blog illustrations, writing guidance, transcription guidance.
Subtitles and transcripts
- 43 caption presets in six groups combine typography, surfaces, layout, active-word appearance, motion and emphasis independently. New controls include color, box, scale, lift, underline and progressive sweep treatments, entrance/exit/loop motion and Kinetic Captions sequence settings. Existing Studio styles retain their round-trip behavior. New captions use Classic's turquoise active-word color, and dragged bilingual lines stay stacked in gallery thumbnails. Caption styles, default, thumbnails.
- Copy a transcript in one click using remembered settings, or open Copy settings for format, front matter, chapters, timestamps, speakers and excluding cut sections, with a preview. The initial default is Markdown with every option enabled. Full transcript copies match export output with the same settings; chapter and paragraph menus also offer plain text. Copy settings, defaults.
- MOSS Transcribe is the factory-default transcription model on all platforms, using MLX on Apple Silicon and candle elsewhere. Until installed, the local provider can use the first installed transcription bundle. Recognition hints unsupported by the chosen model are ignored with a warning, allowing transcription to proceed. Pipeline and transcription progress now share one task row. Default model, hint handling, task progress.
- Mixed CJK/Latin captions regain display spacing without changing saved text, word IDs or timing. Latin text uses an installed sans family when the generic family is absent instead of falling into CJK fallback. Display spacing, font fallback.
Space, file previews and reliability
- Space's All and Videos views show each video once, with its exports, subtitles, transcripts, covers and audio grouped inside. Search, status and recent activity include those files; kind categories, Favorites and Trash remain individual entries. Video titles replace folder names, and higher-resolution posters stay sharp on Retina displays. Grouping, titles, posters.
- Files delivered through
downloads_savebecome Space deliverables. Desktop reply links can preview supported documents outside the session's working directory in the file tab, retaining Open with Default App and Show in Folder. Markdown images resolve beside their document, and outside-directory images can appear directly in desktop agent replies. Web retains its existing file-access restrictions. Deliverables, file previews, relative images, reply images. - Agent tool steps and change receipts collapse into one expandable summary, preserving details, failures, undo/restore and Open video. Running steps show elapsed time, and output cards are separated from following messages. Subscription events received alongside snapshots/replay no longer lose terminal updates; CLI-started packaged Runtimes receive the macOS Metal library path. Thread summaries, card spacing, Runtime reliability.

BaoCut 3.1.1 (Build 64) — macOS and Windows
What's new in 3.1.1
Preview and subtitle editing
- A full-screen player adds chapter navigation, a thumbnail/timecode seek preview, monitoring volume, subtitle modes, playback speed and keyboard shortcuts. Controls and the cursor hide after three seconds of idle playback. The stage bar below the canvas also provides aspect ratio presets, a custom ratio, portrait safe-area guides, playback speed, subtitle visibility, volume and full screen. Playback speed, subtitle visibility and safe-area guides are viewing controls; they do not alter export settings. Full-screen player, stage bar.
- Drag subtitles horizontally and vertically with center/edge snapping guides. Horizontal movement keeps rendered text on the canvas. A bilingual subtitle line can move independently; Shift/Cmd-click or marquee-select both lines to move them together. Positions are shared by captions using the same style. Undo now redraws the committed caption style without needing a reload. Positioning, independent bilingual lines, marquee selection, undo correction.
- Subtitle style thumbnails loop their own word animation using the same rendering kernel as preview and export. Only visible cards animate, frames are cached within a bounded budget, and reduced-motion mode shows a still frame. Animated style previews.
- Media-player progress and volume slider thumbs are centered on their rails. Slider alignment.
Canvas toolbars and clip actions
- Selecting subtitles shows a floating toolbar for color, font, size, editing and style selection, with an Original/Translation switch for bilingual captions. Confetti and whiteboard layers have their own toolbars. Subtitle animation editing remains unavailable and its disabled control explains the limitation. Floating toolbars.
- Toolbar menus provide opacity and Disable clip for applicable elements, including confetti and whiteboard. Disabling uses the existing timeline enable/disable behavior and shows where to re-enable the clip; video retains its own menu behavior. Element menus, confetti and whiteboard.
- Save eligible video/image assets and subtitle styles to the brand kit from their toolbars. Assets stored inside a video's folder remain unavailable for this action. Brand-kit writes are desktop/CLI capabilities; Web controls explain that limitation. Brand-kit actions.
- Replace just the selected video/image clip while keeping other uses of the asset unchanged. Detach audio creates a matching audio clip and mutes the video's embedded audio in one undoable transaction; it requires an audio stream, enabled embedded audio and a constant playback rate. Replace and detach.
Export, packaging and reliability
- Desktop export asks for the output filename and location before starting; multi-file exports ask for a destination directory. Canceling does not start a job, and repeated submissions are guarded. Web exports retain Runtime-managed destinations. Export confirmation.
- Same-size opaque fullscreen footage with a contain/black-background layout avoids redundant frame compositing. Larger fullscreen sources are decoded at their fitted canvas size where applicable, reducing repeated resampling; cropped/effected sources retain their source-size path. This can change the resampling filter and introduce up to one pixel of even-size rounding for differing aspect ratios. Frame pass-through, canvas-size decoding.
- macOS packages share one copy of bundled fonts across desktop, Web and the native export worker, retain supported Electron language resources, and use LZFSE DMG compression. Windows font packaging is unchanged. Packaging changes.
- Development desktop sessions can reconnect to a CLI-started Runtime and tolerate changing Vite ports while preserving token authentication and gateway origin restrictions. The export benchmark now compares cover and contain/black-background placements. Runtime reconnection, benchmark coverage.
- Mac release publication uses the API's returned Release ID for uploads and publishing, removing the immediate post-creation list lookup that interrupted Build 63. Existing release lookup is paginated, and existing assets are checked by ID without replacing their bytes. Build 64 uses a new tag; Build 63 is not rewritten. Release repair.
Changelog scope

Prototype synchronization, merge wrappers, previous-release feed/download maintenance, version synchronization, comment cleanup and a reverted architecture document are accounted for in the source ledger; reverted content is not shipped as a feature. Full comparison.

BaoCut 3.1.0 (Build 62) — macOS and Windows
What's new in 3.1.0
Export and performance
- Video export now prefers native decoding and H.264/MP4 encoding on macOS (AVFoundation / VideoToolbox) and Windows (Media Foundation), with FFmpeg fallback for unsupported sources, output settings or native-open failures. HEVC, WebM, odd output dimensions and unsupported audio layouts retain the fallback path.
BAOCUT_EXPORT_NATIVE=0forces FFmpeg. Implementation. - Export rendering reduces frame copies, reuses caption layers and validation, reads decoded frames ahead, and writes encoded frames through a bounded queue. These changes reduce work in both captioned and uncaptioned exports. Frame rendering, decode and encode queues.
- Desktop video exports default to the source video's folder where applicable, and burned-in caption languages appear in the output filename. Audio, subtitle, transcript and project exports retain the project export-folder default. Export windows, tasks and video cards show rendering speed and estimated time remaining. Export settings, folder correction, video-card estimate.
Timeline editing
- Reorder tracks by dragging their headers or use the canvas Order submenu and its shortcuts to move elements forward, backward, to front or to back. Picture and subtitle tracks share one stacking order, so pictures can appear above subtitles; audio tracks remain a separate group. The canvas follows the track order, and drops snap to a nearby eligible row. Stacking controls, shared picture/subtitle stack.
- Deleting clips now closes the portions of their deleted spans that no remaining content occupies. Shift+Delete removes the selected time span from all tracks. Locks prevent unsafe ripple changes; scoped subtitles and separated background/vocal stems follow their source footage. Each operation remains one undo step. Subtitle and voice-over headers use language tags; non-video rows have consistent heights, and empty unnamed audio rows are hidden. Delete and ripple, coverage rules.
- Chapters move with content when transcript cuts are applied, restored or retimed, preventing markers from drifting away from their scenes. Stacking-order error messages are registered in all supported locales. Chapter timing, localized errors.
Home, conversations and media
- Home lets you choose a project, create one, or work without one, and remembers the last project choice and translation target on this computer. Quick starts accept file drops or video links and ask for missing prompt fields before work starts. Home project picker.
- Videos created in a project-less conversation stay in that conversation's own folder in the operating system's app-data location. Existing scratch folders migrate at startup. The agent can adopt a session into a project on request; deleting a session with videos preserves them in a project.
BAOCUT_SESSIONS_DIRcan override the folder location. Session storage. - Space's floating video chat opens a new Home conversation with the shared agent/model controls and a video card on its first message. This also applies to videos outside a project. Known limitation: a new project-less conversation's agent cannot open a video owned by another conversation through tools (
VIDEO_OUTSIDE_WORKSPACE); work in the owning conversation or adopt its session into a project. Video chat, project-less behavior and limitation. - Conversation video cards show a play button on hover/focus and play source footage inline when clicked and show agent translation jobs alongside pipeline translation progress. Transcribed videos without a subtitle track show a read-only transcript timeline row. Media scrubbers align with the other playback controls. Video cards and translation, player alignment.
- Link downloads prefer MP4/M4A where available, use the configured Downloads folder for ordinary agent downloads, and expose original titles, descriptions and source-file locations in video details. Project-only and MCP-service downloads retain their project destination. WebM plays directly when the browser supports its codecs; otherwise the preview shows conversion progress until a compatible copy is ready. Failed media no longer leaves the entire preview covered. Downloads and details, MP4 preference, preview progress.
- Space can sort by creation or update time, newest first, with unknown timestamps last. Space sorting.
Upgrade, models and reliability
- Desktop startup asks before importing legacy projects, with a destination choice, skip and never-remind options. Background imports show progress, grouped failure reasons, retry and skip actions, and preserve historical activity timestamps. Legacy service preferences migrate where supported; old client authorization or pairing may need to be renewed. Background macOS credential migration avoids interaction prompts and retains unresolved entries for retries. Legacy project-import controls are desktop/CLI features and are not exposed to Web clients. Import controls, import results, silent credential migration.
- Local models with weights already on disk remain under Installed and can download only their missing required or optional components. Shared components and download sizes are visible. Inline downloads are available in transcription, TTS and dub separation; a manually chosen transcription model is retained when another download finishes. Idle workers reload after component installation or repair. Model grouping, inline completion, worker reload.
- Closing a development terminal stops the desktop process tree and Runtime cleanly, avoids broken-output log loops, and prevents Runtime respawn during quit. ACP agents stop with their process groups so child tools are not left running. Toasts dismiss after a few seconds, pausing while hovered or focused. Desktop lifecycle, agent cleanup.
Developer improvements
Cross-platform prerequisite checks and dev:lite support improve source startup, including Node 22.12 compatibility. Development builds optimize the export hot path. The export benchmark includes caption-style presets, and an interactive architecture tutorial is included. These engineering changes are distinct from automated release verification. Startup checks, Node compatibility, tutorial.

BaoCut 3.0.1 (Build 61) — macOS and Windows
Changes in 3.0.1
- Automatically import legacy BaoCut projects and compatible settings, including model/save folders and cloud API keys. Windows legacy projects use the v2 importer.
- Run legacy project discovery after startup, cache the inventory, and resume only unfinished items. After full completion, later launches read the completion marker without rescanning legacy data or credentials.
- Run imports serially at lower priority and wait while user model/export jobs are active. Missing media remains pending without repeatedly launching an importer.
- Enable automatic legacy detection in the default desktop development launch and support Windows drive and UNC paths.
