Releases: jpdrude/KitBash_Quest
Initial Public Release
Installation (Meta Quest)
KitBash is distributed as a sideloaded .apk. You install it on your Quest using
the Meta Quest Developer Hub (MQDH). No command line required.
Prerequisites
- A Meta Quest headset (Quest 2 / Pro / 3 / 3S)
- A computer (Windows or macOS)
- A USB-C data cable (charge-only cables will not work)
- A Meta account with two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled — this is
required to enable Developer Mode (see below)
1. Enable Developer Mode on your Quest
Developer Mode allows installing apps from outside the store ("sideloading").
It is enabled via the Meta Horizon app on your phone, not in the headset.
- Make sure your Meta account is a verified developer account and has 2FA
enabled. Without 2FA, Developer Mode cannot be turned on.
Register / verify at https://developers.meta.com. - Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone, signed in with the same account
as your headset. - Select your headset → Headset settings → Developer Mode → toggle it on.
- Restart the headset.

2. Install Meta Quest Developer Hub (MQDH)
Download and install MQDH for your OS:
- Windows: https://developers.meta.com/horizon/downloads/package/oculus-developer-hub-win/
- macOS: https://developers.meta.com/horizon/downloads/package/oculus-developer-hub-mac/
Launch MQDH and sign in with your Meta developer credentials (same account as on
the headset).
On macOS, if Gatekeeper blocks the app on first launch, open it via
right-click → Open.
3. Connect your headset
- Connect the Quest to your computer with a USB-C data cable.
- Put on the headset — a prompt "Allow USB debugging?" appears inside the
headset. Choose "Always allow from this computer" and confirm. - In MQDH, open Device Manager (left sidebar). Your Quest should appear with a
green connection status.
The "Allow USB debugging" prompt only shows inside the headset. If your
device doesn't appear in MQDH, put the headset on, unplug and replug the USB
cable and look for this dialog.
4. Install KitBash
- Make sure your Quest shows as connected in MQDH.
- Drag and drop the
KitBash.apkfile directly into the MQDH window. - MQDH installs the app automatically and reports when it's done.
To update later, just drag the new
.apkin again — it overwrites the existing
install (as long as it's signed with the same key).
5. Launch KitBash on the Quest
Sideloaded apps don't appear in the normal app grid. To find KitBash:
- In the headset, open the App Library.
- Open the source/category dropdown (top right) and select
"Unknown Sources". - KitBash appears in that list — select it to launch.
