Some features that imo would be good:

• unapply
• swap destination and source
• format as patch
• version control comparison
• reference view

The first and second are also on Kompare. The third and fourth can be seen on Meld (for now my preferred graphical diff tool). Meld also makes the second unnecessary as differences can be applied to both directions. The last is on DiffMerge (freeware) which makes use of two tabs where on one there is the file as loaded and on the second the file as edited.

• unapply is hard to implement. Kompare is internally working on the total diffs in all files. The ability to manually edit a destination file (and save that individual files), makes it hard (or impossible) to correctly handle unapply. What will happen in the case that you apply a diff and then edit in some way that diff. What would you expect unapply to do in that case? Hint there is an undo functionality as the file viewing component is actually a text editor.

• swap destination and source. I'll put it in the todo list.

• ctrl-z works indeed as expected.
• format as patch: it shows the result of diff -u original edited.

The Reference View is a static view of the changes in the files as originally read from disk.
The Edit View is an interactive editor and live difference viewer.

That is edit view is normal kdiff whereas reference view can be used to check how dest file was before edits. (In case I want to retrace some of them.)

Quick follow up: It may be extremely straightforward to implement the "reference view" feature in combination with the existing "Create Backup" option (ie create a backup before applying any changes to the destination).

So the "reference view" would be only available if the "Create Backup" option is selected. Does this makes sense / seem reasonable?
