This project implements a middleware for Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) computing in decentralized collaborative edge environments. The system enables efficient resource discovery, function scheduling, and execution across distributed edge nodes.
This research was conducted in collaboration with:
- ISEL - Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa
- FIT - Future Internet Technologies, research group at ISEL
- IST - Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa
- INESC-ID - Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento
The initial research was accepted at GECON 2024 (21st International Conference on Economics of Grids, Clouds, Systems, and Services) and received the Best Student Paper Award.
An extended version has been published in Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS), a leading journal in distributed and parallel computing systems. The paper presents the theoretical foundations, system architecture, and experimental evaluation of the faas-edge middleware.
