Not sure if Codedb is equivalent or an alternative of serena from https://github.com/oraios/serena or maybe I missunderstood the goal for this codedb to solve?

codedb is not a 1:1 equivalent to Serena. There is overlap, but the aim is different.

Serena is an IDE-style semantic MCP toolkit built around LSP / JetBrains.

codedb is something I built for myself first: a fast, local, low-friction code-intelligence server for agent workflows. It is more index-driven, with emphasis on speed, low latency, and token efficiency: search, outlines, deps, snapshots, and file watching over MCP/HTTP for clients like Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, and Cursor.

So the difference is simple: Serena is more IDE/refactor oriented; codedb is more lightweight and optimized for everyday agent use.
