Kiosk Satellite Beta

The first public release of Kiosk Satellite: a free Android kiosk browser built specifically for Home Assistant, and the official companion app for Voice Satellite. Mount a tablet on the wall, run the setup wizard, and you get a locked-down, always-on dashboard that listens for your wake word natively, even while the screen is off or another app is in front.

✨ Highlights

• Two-minute setup: a five-step wizard connects to Home Assistant, validates the connection, lets you pick your dashboard, detects Voice Satellite, and requests exactly the Android permissions your choices need. Run it on the tablet or from a browser on your computer.
• Voice Satellite, natively: wake word detection runs inside the app instead of the browser - 10x-30x cheaper, working with the screen off or another app in front, surviving reboots, and holding the microphone with a pre-roll so the first words of a command are never clipped. Your engine, models, and satellite entity are inherited automatically; there is nothing to configure.
• Kiosk lockdown: exit gesture with PIN, blocked hardware buttons, a status-bar shield, instant re-wake on the power button, and full lock-task support on device-owner tablets.
• HA kiosk mode: hide the Home Assistant header and/or sidebar, with or without the kiosk-mode HACS plugin, and toggle it straight from the slide-out menu.
• Dashboard view rotation: cycle through a chosen set of dashboard views in an endless loop, each on screen for a configurable number of seconds - a camera wall, the energy view, back to the main dashboard.
• Screensavers: dim, black, clock, Home Assistant media, local folders, or a photo gallery, with crossfade / slide / zoom / Ken Burns transitions, motion wake, and scheduled light/dark themes.
• Remote administration: a web admin at http://<device-ip>:2324 mirrors every setting, shows a live screenshot, web console and logs, and can export/import the entire configuration as one backup file.
• Power-user extras: inject your own JavaScript into every page, start on boot, default brightness, pull-to-refresh with cache clearing, and self-signed certificate support out of the box.

📦 Installation

1. Download the latest release .apk file and open it on your Android device (allow installing from unknown sources when Android asks).
2. Follow the setup wizard. Tip: enable remote administration in the first step and finish from a computer, where pasting the Home Assistant access token is much easier than typing it on glass.

Requirements: Android 7.0 or newer, a reachable Home Assistant instance, and a long-lived access token. For voice, install Voice Satellite from the default HACS repository - version 2026.7.10 or newer is recommended for the full integration (screensaver hand-off and diagnostics support).

🧪 Beta

Kiosk Satellite runs day and night on the author's own wall tablets, but this is a first release - expect rough edges, and please bring bug reports and feature requests to the issue tracker.
