Instacalc: New Beta!

I'm working on a massive overhaul of instacalc, preview here:

Current Improvements

• Rebuilt existing UI with modern 2025 React (upgrade from the now-ancient 2016 React).
• Cleaner UX with much better themes/display config (especially Omarchy-style themes)
• Extensive UI testing framework in place. There may be bugs from the UI rebuild (every line was changed), but bugs are easier to detect, isolate, fix, and ensure they stay fixed.

Future Improvments

• Shared calcs / community gallery feature.

I've wanted a shared calc area for years. I've had a few attempts, but it was too painful to make designs that were throwaway work. I'm currently iterating through many designs and will later add them to the beta. For now, I wanted to get the main UX cleanups in your hands.

Can you add subscript and superscript to variable inputs?

Ah! Yes, that feature wasn't ported over. Now you should be able to type

\2 (then space) and get a superscript, \_2 (then space) to get a subscript.

Lots of updates, UI and otherwise...

• Sidebar on left. This was the main UX decision I've grappled with. I realize 99% of tools have the file list on the left; while instacalc has "info panels" on the right, our muscle memory brings us to the left while browsing. The various panels like help, calcy, etc. are still on the right

• Configurable theme params (?theme=name), esp. useful for embeds. https://instacalc--preview-cbuu2r75.web.app/52001/embed?theme=osaka

• Data urls. You can now create URL-based calcs without saving, by typing parameters like so: https://instacalc--preview-cbuu2r75.web.app/#x=10|y=20|x*y
