Summary

For adults interested in online dating, many will feel dissatisfied by having to choose between applications that are superficially photo-based,

and those that are dauntingly algorithmic in their match selection process. QMi is a dating app that proposes a practical intermediate.
 Users can login to update their profiles with photos and interests, browse users determined by a matching algorithm,
 filter results by user preferences and geographical radius, and chat with others via messaging integration, as with most dating applications.
  The unique feature of QMi is that a user must write a template-based quiz that any other user must answer and receive acceptance upon before
   they are able to message one another. Potential matches are organised by user photo tiles, and a quiz preview appears on mouseover.
   Although this process may seem lengthy, character limits are imposed on any text in user profiles or quiz responses, as well as the length of quizzes.
    Through these restrictions, QMi is able to hold user interest while also eliciting less obvious details about users, based on how quizzes are written
     and responded to, which makes for unique and relevant initiations of conversation. In nearly every aspect of this web application, one user can flag
      another for inappropriate photos, quizzes, responses, or chat messages, which can be reviewed by an administrator. Administrators can additionally
      review data collected from users regarding demographics, account activity, and general trends. QMi provides an inventive way for users to get to know
      each other without making online dating tedious or reducing it to a cursory game.

Definition

The goal of QMi is to be a web application in which people who are serious about online dating will use as their go-to resource.

As it is, existing dating applications on the market are superficially marketed, meaning that their aim is geared more towards casual relationships.
 By creating an application that incorporates user-created quizzes and an integrated messaging service upon matching, users will find a greater compatibility
 through both their looks and their personalities. In this environment, users will spend less time and money on dead-end interactions and unsatisfactory dates.
 Ideally, this application will be marketed to any adult of age 18 or older, a large subset of whom will be busy individuals who do not have time to meet others
  in social settings..

Scope

At the core of its purpose, QMi’s main feature is the ability to fill out questionnaires that users post on their ‘dating profile’,

which other users can then fill out, and based on the answers they provide, the original user (who posted the questionnaire) will be able to
 accept or decline their answers. If they accept their answers, the two users will be matched. Similarly, if they decline each other’s answers,
 the two will not be matched and their profiles will be removed from each other’s homepages as available matches. Upon matching, users will be able
 to chat with one another through an integrated chat messaging API.

The following subfeatures of this main process is the ability to post questionnaires, answer other questionnaires,

chat with matches, edit account information, set match preferences and geographical radius, the latter of which will be implemented using Google Maps.
 Users can also report illegal or inappropriate content or behaviour which includes but does not limit photos, questionnaires, and chat conversation.
 There will be multiple restrictions in the application such as setting a limit to how many questionnaires a user can fill out per day to promote the reuse
 of the application on a daily basis.

Typically, a user scenario would be as follows:

The user will be able to register onto the site and set up an account profile by providing descriptions of themselves and selecting certain interests and preferences. The user will be able to write a questionnaire that they want other users to fill out and review before being matched to them. The user will be able to set a geographical radius to which they will be able to view other user profiles who have their radius set less than or equal to other users. The user will be able to edit particular filters in their potential matches, such as age, sex, and height. The user will be able to flag inappropriate or illegal behaviour on the application by other users, which will be reported to an administrator. The user will be able to browse a theoretically infinite feed of staggered photo tiles on the homepage which suit their match filters. The user will be able to chat with other users that they have matched with through an integrated messaging service.

Typically, an administrator scenario would be as follows:

The administrator will be able to review user-reported content. The administrator will be able to suspend or ban users based on their behaviour. The administrator will be able to edit user profile information if it is deemed inappropriate or misleading. The administrator will be able to view analyses of user demographics and activity.

The project will require every group member to put in consistent and efficient time to be able to produce the product as intended above.

There is a lot to be done: from UI, to a match-making algorithm, to implementing all the features and different functionalities of the application,
 and creating a polished, manageable, and workable product.

To ensure that group work is being efficiently implemented, tested, and that the project’s scope is being met, our team plans to meet twice a

week at regular times to discuss where we are at in development and where we need to be by the next time we meet. By ensuring these milestones
 are met, we can monitor the amount of progress we are making towards the end goal and determine what to spend more time on, such as on polishing
  existing features rather than creating more at a lower quality.

Communication between meetings will take place over Slack, a professional messaging service. Descriptions of general user and admin stories,

and the current stage of their implementation will be placed on Trello. Any spreadsheets, slide presentations, or word processing will be available
 to the entire group for viewing and editing on Google Drive.
