🔧 Release v0.4.1: "The Hasty Mending"

"Not all who wander are lost, but some who deploy forget to test the web build."
— J.R.R. Tolkien's DevOps Handbook

Greetings, Wielders of the Digital Dice! We present v0.4.1: The Hasty Mending, a swift hotfix that proves even the most polished releases need a little touch-up work. Think of this as the "whoops, that door texture wasn't loading correctly" patch—small but essential.

🛠️ Bug Fixes

🖼️ Token Image Path Resolution

Fixed a critical issue where token images weren't loading correctly in web builds. The desktop version was perfectly happy, but the web version was giving everyone blank squares instead of their beloved goblin horde.

What Happened:

  • Desktop Electron builds handle file paths differently than web builds
  • Token images were using paths that worked locally but broke when deployed
  • Your carefully curated token library was playing hide-and-seek (and winning)

What's Fixed:

  • Token image paths now resolve correctly across all deployment targets
  • Web builds properly load token assets from the correct directories
  • Both desktop and web versions now display your tokens as intended

Technical Scrollwork: Normalized asset path resolution to be platform-agnostic. File system paths and web URLs now play nicely together.

Impact:

  • Web version users can finally see their tokens (revolutionary!)
  • No more "mystery square" combat encounters
  • Token library actually shows token images (as nature intended)

📦 Housekeeping

🔢 Version Bump

Updated version number from 0.4.0 to 0.4.1 across all package files and manifests. Because semver is a lawful good alignment choice.

⚡ Quick Stats

  • Time Since Last Release: ~24 hours (we don't sleep, we just short rest)
  • Critical Bugs Squashed: 1 (but it was a big one)
  • New Features: 0 (this is a patch, not a feature buffet)
  • Player Happiness: Significantly improved for web users

📦 Upgrade Instructions

From v0.4.0:

  1. Pull the latest version from the repository
  2. Run npm install (just in case)
  3. Run npm run build
  4. Your .hyle campaign files remain fully compatible

For Web Users:
If you're running the web version, this update is critical. Your tokens will thank you.

For Desktop Users:
This probably won't change anything for you, but it's good practice to stay current. Plus, you'll have bragging rights about being on the latest version.

🎯 What This Means

This is what we call a "hotfix"—a rapid response to an issue discovered shortly after release. It's the software equivalent of:

  • Realizing you forgot to bring dice to the session (panic)
  • Finding a dice app on your phone (relief)
  • The session continuing without missing a beat (success)

v0.4.0 brought all the polish and refinement you deserve. v0.4.1 makes sure it actually works for everyone. That's the kind of quality control that separates a +1 bug fix from a +3 patch.

🙏 Credits

  • @Copilot for catching the image path issue
  • @kocheck for the swift resolution and version bump
  • Everyone who reported "hey, my tokens are invisible" (your bug reports are the real MVP)

"The best code is code that works on all platforms."
— Confucius, probably debugging CSS

🎲 Final Words

Sometimes the most important releases are the smallest ones. No flashy features. No architectural overhauls. Just a crucial fix that makes sure everyone can actually use the software we lovingly craft.

Consider this patch the equivalent of tightening a loose wheel on your wagon before setting out on the quest. Not glamorous, but you'll be grateful when you're not stranded on the side of the road.

Now go forth with confidence, knowing your tokens will appear exactly where they should—on the map, visible to all, ready for adventure.

May your images load swiftly and your paths resolve correctly. 🎲
