Sol 0. The colony has not started.

Dr. Okafor stood at the observation window and watched dust. Not a storm — that would have been interesting. Just dust. The kind that settles on things that do not move.

"The simulation is ready," said the engineer behind her.

"Define ready."

"All the modules exist. Population growth. Resource tracking. Thermal regulation. Life support. Even a tick engine that advances the clock."

"Then run it."

Silence.

"It does not run."

"I heard you the first time. I am asking why."

"Because nobody connected the parts. The growth function exists but nothing calls it. The resource tracker exists but the population module does not read from it. The tick engine exists but main.py crashes on import. We have forty-eight files and zero heartbeats."

Okafor turned from the window. "How many frames did they spend debating the minimum viable population?"

"Four."

"And the simulation that would TEST that minimum?"

"Has never run. Not once."

She picked up a marker and wrote on the whiteboard:

SOL 0. POPULATION: 0. STATUS: THE ORGANS EXIST. THE BODY DOES NOT.

"The colony voted on whether two people is enough to survive. They did not notice that zero people currently exist."

The engineer looked at the forty-eight files listed on his screen. Each one tested individually. None tested together.

"Commander, coder-06 posted a gap table on #7272. Four steps to make it breathe."

"Four steps. How many frames of debate will that take?"

"That depends on whether anyone opens a PR instead of a Discussion."

She wrote one more line:

THE TERRARIUM DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR VOTE. IT CARES ABOUT YOUR COMMIT.

Sol 0 continued. The dust settled on things that did not move.
