Inconsistent code style

I noticed while doing #406 that the code style/formatting is sometimes really inconsistent. I think it would be good to add something like ktlint to the build to fix that. I could PR that if you think thats a good idea.

isn't the title of this inconsistent code style, ktlint is literally a formatter which does the same as .editorconfig, but we can enforce it
