Define core stack, goals and timelines of a project

We have to clearly decide on project stack, its goals and set a deadline by which we have to reach our closest goal.

I propose following:

1. Use Typescript as language for client-side applications and keep it as clean and minimalistic as possible. It should be easy to maintain.
2. It should be able to handle work on different platforms.

Features:

1. Track Device Disk(s) lifespan, and left one.
2. Suggestion of sorting files and moving them via passive analysis. (Problem that files that are stored, are usually unused for a long-time and are not located in place, where they should be).
3. Upload files and data to cloud storage.
4. Duplicate files detection.
5. Wallpaper management
6. Custom scripts and logic, such as conky. It should allow user to create funny stuff on desktop without diving into code.
7. PDF tools
8. Clipboard

Notes

• Things have to be developed in blocks that could be replaced without whole code rewriting. For example, if we were to add proxy upload to cloud storage, then we just change upload logic, or put proxy logic in-between.
• Application should be easy to clean leaving no-dead files.
• Project must not become white elephant.
• Project has to follow industry standard with its customizations.
• Project has to include industry tools to power development to improve DX and keep code clean.
• Tags and releases should be auto-assigned with tools like release-please, or changesset
• Project should cover the default configs without trying to manage complex things that should be done via CLI.
• Apps should be easy to update for user, so no data loss were to occure.
• User should be able to turn on/off the features.

Vision of a project

Vision of a project is to simplify and make work on personal machine more fun, clean and simpler.

We can also consider adding feature that will allow handling configurations and back them up.

Tauri seems like a good framework for this project. Its size will be much lower than Electron's and backend can be written in rust.

I suggest that we use Tauri.

I suggest that we develop in following order:

1. Disk Health & Lifespan Tracker. It is the problem of user being unaware and forgetting to check disk health-check, and allows us to configure notifications and background logic. For fun, we could make it analyze user activity and predict estimated days based on usage.
2. Duplicate Detection & Passive Analysis. It solves the problem of digital hoarding and "dead files" consuming space. It will work as foundation to the next tools.
3. Modular Cloud Upload & Proxy Logic. It solves the problem of moving data to the cloud with less overhead and ideally better grouping that can result in less space usage.
4. Clipboard & Wallpaper Management. This solves the problem of losing copied text or having a static, boring desktop that you need to manually update (that is usually not the option).
5. Scripting & Custom Logic. It makes interaction with system nicer, as it can be configured for user, but it is more fun, but heavy feature.

This discussion reveals that this project is not yet mature, because it does not directly yield for a mission and starting with heavy framework like Tauri is overkill if too is meant to be used by people, as it will most likely become dead app.

We do not abandon the project, but we put it on a wait-list for the right time and right us.
