@kroist kroist released this 10 Sep 12:20

Folio 1.3.1

PDF and Markdown exports now remember the last folder you chose, including after restarting Folio. If that folder is unavailable, the dialog falls back to Documents. Canceling the dialog leaves the saved choice unchanged.

Installation

  • Apple Silicon Macs (arm64).
  • Existing Folio 1.0.3 or newer installations can use the signed automatic update. The DMG and full-app ZIP are available for manual installation.
  • The app is ad-hoc signed, not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized. On first launch, macOS may require control-clicking Folio and choosing Open.

Validation

  • All 69 tests, type checking, lint, and production build passed; dependency audit reports zero vulnerabilities.
  • Regression check covers persistence across restarts and fallback for missing folders or paths that are files.
  • Packaged search initialization, app signature, archive integrity, and Ed25519 update signature verified.
  • Live previous-version download/restart and iCloud sync were not exercised for this release.

Folio 1.3.0

@kroist kroist released this 10 Sep 11:11

Folio 1.3.0

Fenced mermaid blocks now render as diagrams in split view, preview mode, and PDF exports. Diagrams update while you edit. Invalid syntax shows the source and an error, and recovers once corrected.

```mermaid
flowchart LR
  A[Write Markdown] --> B[Render diagram]
```

Mermaid is bundled locally and loaded only for notes containing diagrams. PDF export waits for diagrams to finish rendering.

Installation

  • Apple Silicon Macs (arm64).
  • Existing Folio 1.0.3 or newer installations can receive this feature through the signed automatic-update payload. This is not an updater bootstrap release.
  • The DMG and full-app ZIP are available for manual installation.
  • The app is ad-hoc signed, not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized. macOS may require you to control-click Folio, choose Open, and confirm.
  • Semantic and hybrid search require model downloads on first use; Mermaid rendering and keyword search do not.

Validation

  • 68 tests, type checking, lint, and production build passed; npm audit reports zero vulnerabilities.
  • Verified real flowchart and sequence rendering, live editing, invalid-syntax recovery, ordinary code blocks, and Electron PDF export.
  • Verified packaged search initialization, app signature, DMG, ZIP archives, and Ed25519 update signature.
  • Live previous-version download/restart and iCloud sync were not exercised for this release.

Folio 1.2.3

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 10 Sep 10:16

Folio 1.2.3

Note titles now follow the opening Markdown # heading. The editor and exports no longer show a duplicate title above it, and existing notes, filenames, and wiki links are synchronized when loaded. Notes without an opening heading retain their editable title.

This release also updates dependencies to resolve five npm audit findings.

Installation and updates

  • Supports Apple Silicon Macs (arm64).
  • Automatic app-code updates are available from Folio 1.0.3 or newer through the signed update ZIP. This is not a bootstrap release.
  • Install the DMG or full-app ZIP to receive all bundled dependency security fixes; payload-only updates do not replace external dependencies.
  • The app is ad-hoc signed, not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized. macOS may require you to control-click Folio, choose Open, and confirm.
  • Semantic and hybrid search require model downloads on first use. Keyword search works without those models.

Validation

  • 67 tests passed; type checking, lint, and production build passed.
  • npm audit: zero vulnerabilities.
  • Packaged search worker initialized SQLite successfully.
  • App signature, DMG checksum, full-app ZIP, update ZIP, and Ed25519 update signature verified.
  • Installed from the DMG into a temporary folder and tested in a disposable vault: note creation, editing, renaming, moving, deletion, attachments, mode switching, scrolling, and live heading-to-sidebar title synchronization. Visually checked the editor's duplicate title removal.
  • The live previous-version update/restart flow and iCloud sync were not exercised for this patch.

Folio 1.2.2

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 04 Sep 14:06

Fixed

  • Fixed full-app installations retaining an older in-place update payload.
  • Full-app installs now activate their bundled payload when it is newer than the active payload.

Updating from 1.1.0 or 1.2.1

Download the DMG below and replace Folio in Applications manually. Folio 1.2.2 will activate the corrected bundled payload on first launch.

Folio 1.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 04 Sep 13:43

Fixed

  • Fixed a macOS crash when opening the update window.

Updating from 1.1.0

Folio 1.1.0 can crash before it downloads this fix. Download the DMG below and replace Folio in Applications manually. Future update checks from 1.2.1 use the corrected updater.

Folio 1.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 04 Sep 11:36

Folio 1.2.0 adds mathematical writing and portable note export.

Highlights

  • Render inline $...$ and block $$...$$ LaTeX with KaTeX in split and preview modes.
  • Export any note as a styled, tagged A4 PDF or as its canonical Markdown file from Export ▸ in the note menu.
  • Teach connected MCP agents Folio’s LaTeX syntax and the \$ escape for literal dollar signs.
  • Remove the redundant Copy Unique Path note action; Copy Link remains.

Install and update

Folio 1.1.0 and later can install this release through the in-app updater. For a manual installation, download the DMG and drag Folio into Applications. This build supports Apple Silicon Macs.

The full app is ad-hoc signed but not Apple-notarized. On first launch, macOS may require you to control-click Folio, choose Open, and confirm. Folio’s automatic-update payload is independently verified with its Ed25519 release key.

Meaning and Hybrid search still download a local embedding model of about 300 MB on first use; Text search and the new features do not require that download.

Folio 1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 04 Sep 10:54

Folio 1.1.0

Folio 1.1.0 adds a familiar, dedicated macOS update window while keeping Folio's Apple-independent, Ed25519-verified payload updater.

Highlights

  • Release notes are shown directly in the update window.
  • Users can install, skip a version, or be reminded later.
  • An optional preference automatically downloads and stages future updates.
  • Downloading, signature verification, readiness, and restart happen in the same window.
  • Light and dark appearances use Folio's installed app icon and macOS-style controls.
  • Patched audited transitive dependencies; npm audit reports zero vulnerabilities.

Users running 1.0.3 can install 1.1.0 through Folio's existing updater. Because the new UI is itself part of 1.1.0, that one transition uses the previous native prompt; updates after 1.1.0 use the new window.

Compatibility and signing

  • Apple Silicon Macs only.
  • The full app is ad-hoc signed but is not Apple-notarized. A first manual installation may require control-clicking Folio, choosing Open, and confirming.
  • Application payload updates are verified with Folio's Ed25519 release key and do not require an Apple Developer ID.
  • Electron, bundled Node, or native external-dependency upgrades still require a manual full-app installation.
  • Meaning and Hybrid search download a local embedding model of about 300 MB when first used; keyword search does not.

Validated with type-checking, lint, 63 tests, a production build, zero-vulnerability dependency audit, packaged qmd/native-SQLite smoke test, isolated packaged-app launch, ad-hoc code-signature verification, DMG verification, ZIP integrity checks, Ed25519 payload verification, and GitHub Actions CI.

Folio 1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 04 Sep 10:07

Folio 1.0.3 replaces the Squirrel.Mac updater with Folio's own Ed25519-verified application payload updates.

Important upgrade note

Users on 1.0.2 or earlier must install 1.0.3 manually from the DMG or full-app ZIP. This is the one-time bootstrap install: later app-code releases can download, verify, and activate themselves without an Apple Developer ID. Releases that change Electron, bundled Node, or native dependencies will still require a manual full-app install.

Update reliability

  • Verifies every downloaded update payload with Folio's embedded Ed25519 public key.
  • Stages versioned payloads outside the app bundle and activates them atomically on restart.
  • Keeps the previous payload available and falls back if a new payload cannot load.
  • Preserves the existing six-hour background check and Folio → Check for Updates… command.

macOS compatibility

This release supports Apple Silicon Macs. It is ad-hoc signed but not Apple-notarized, so macOS may require control-clicking Folio, choosing Open, and confirming on first launch.

Validated with lint, 62 tests, production build, packaged qmd smoke test, ad-hoc code-signature verification, DMG verification, ZIP integrity checks, an isolated packaged-app bootstrap launch, and GitHub Actions CI.

Folio 1.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 23 Aug 17:12

Folio 1.0.2 is a macOS patch release for Apple Silicon.

Highlights

  • Adds Chrome-style in-note search with Command-F.
  • Remembers the last query and supports Command-G / Command-Shift-G to cycle through matches.
  • Highlights matches in both the editor and rendered Markdown preview.
  • Uses one shared search bar and synchronized highlights in split view.
  • Keeps search highlights current while a note is edited.

Installation

This Apple Silicon build is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple-notarized. macOS may require you to control-click Folio, choose Open, and confirm. Because releases do not yet use a consistent Developer ID signature, in-place automatic update installation is not guaranteed; install from the DMG if the updater cannot complete. Intel Macs are not supported by this build.

Meaning and Hybrid search download a local embedding model of approximately 300 MB when first initialized. Notes remain local Markdown files.

Verification

  • npm security audit found 0 vulnerabilities.
  • TypeScript, ESLint, all 61 tests, the renderer build, the Electron build, and GitHub CI passed.
  • The packaged qmd worker opened SQLite and initialized successfully.
  • The app bundle's ad-hoc signature, DMG checksum, and ZIP archive were verified locally.

Folio 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@kroist kroist released this 18 Aug 11:02

Folio 1.0.1 is a macOS patch release for Apple Silicon.

Highlights

  • Fixes trackpad scrolling in the notes list on macOS.
  • Adds background update checks, Folio → Check for Updates…, and a restart prompt after an update downloads.
  • Preserves the active note before restarting to install an update.
  • Uses updater-compatible macOS ZIP artifact naming for future releases.

Installation and updater bootstrap

Folio 1.0.1 is the first release containing the updater, so users of 1.0.0 must install this release manually from the DMG. This build is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple-notarized; macOS may require you to control-click Folio, choose Open, and confirm. Because it does not yet use a consistent Developer ID signature, in-place automatic update installation is not guaranteed. Intel Macs are not supported by this build.

Meaning and Hybrid search download a local embedding model of approximately 300 MB when first initialized. Notes remain local Markdown files.

Verification

  • TypeScript build, ESLint, and all 57 tests passed.
  • The packaged qmd worker opened SQLite and initialized successfully.
  • The app bundle signature, DMG checksum, and ZIP archive were verified locally.
