HTML5 module : ability to send progress in the material to the Teacher's dashboard

Summary

We developed an HTML5 module to learn HTML and CSS by practice instead of theory, and in which the learning has been organized as a long sequence of screens. The current position of the learner in the content is stored as a LocalStorage, so that when the user comes back later, s.he can continue where s.he left off.

We would like to be able to update the Teacher on the progress of the learner but so far we haven't found a way.
Is there some sort of API that would allow us to send the learners' progress to the Teacher's dashboard ? If not, would you consider adding it ?

This is great! We have recently added support for SCORM 1.2 for progress tracking, which will be released with Kolibri 0.15, which should come out towards the end of June 2021.

The environment exposes a fully SCORM compatible API as detailed here (https://scorm.com/scorm-explained/technical-scorm/scorm-12-overview-for-developers/) with the SCORM API referenceable at window.parent.SCORM.

The main downside at the moment is that this will not preview in Studio, and will not work in older versions of Kolibri.

To handle this, it would be best to attempt to reference the object like this:

   API = window.parent.SCORM;
} catch (e) {
  API = null;
}

And then do checks that API is not null whenever you are trying to log to it.

As an aside, in case you were unaware, in Kolibri, we shim the localStorage API, so that users will have their data reinstated, regardless of whether its in the same browser or device, and multiple users in the same browsers will have progress that is unique to them.
