AVE 1.0.0

AVE 1.0.0 is the first public macOS release candidate for AVE, a local-first AI video editor that turns rough creative briefs into reviewable edit plans and deterministic timeline actions.

Highlights

  • Dirty brief to executable edit plan - describe the video you want in plain language, review AVE's structured plan, then approve it before the timeline changes.
  • Single and multi-format planning - create one edit or multiple deliverables from the same footage pool, including 16:9, 4:5, 1:1, 9:16, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Shorts, YouTube, web, and custom formats.
  • Ask and Plan modes - use Ask for creative direction, captions, structure, and project questions; use Plan for timeline operations that should be approval-gated before execution.
  • Explicit execution routing - Auto uses validated native tools when available and asks the assistant otherwise; Fast uses deterministic native tools only; Reason asks the selected assistant first and validates any supported tool calls.
  • Provider, model, and reasoning controls - choose local models, installed CLI assistants, or OpenAI-compatible API providers, then switch provider/model/reasoning level from Settings or the bottom status bar.
  • CLI assistant support - AVE can use installed assistants such as Codex CLI, Claude CLI, Qwen CLI, and Antigravity CLI for planning and edit suggestions.
  • Local-first media workflow - imported media, local analysis, timeline execution, project files, and exports stay on your Mac unless you explicitly connect an external assistant or API.
  • Footage-aware planning - AVE uses imported assets, transcripts, visual notes, clip metadata, and timeline context to ground edit plans in the actual project.
  • Native timeline tools - approved plans execute through AVE's controlled editing tools for sequence creation, clip extraction, format adaptation, transitions, styling, captions, gap closing, and render/export operations.
  • Release-ready macOS packaging - the app is signed, notarized, stapled, and distributed through GitHub Releases with updater metadata.

Notes

AVE is early and will move quickly. Some advanced workflows will still need iteration, but the core release candidate path is ready: import footage, analyze assets, ask or plan, approve deterministic edits, and export from the native app.
