While working on a refactor for the database logic I discovered that the connect_db method was still broken if using the default :memory: database. I definitely should have caught this when the end to end tests didn't work right...
Speaking of end to end tests the amount of source records in the snapshot environment fluctuates which causes the test to be flaky. This will hopefully make it less flaky.
