Proxy server: Would this feature be useful for you guys?

[chmikiro]

I've been working on integrating in-app proxy (http and socks5) routing for Libretube lately. This is currently in the latest iterating testing phase, and should be pushed as a pull request shortly.

Before these last -heavy- verification steps, it would be extremely helpful to measure the appetite for this.

Many thanks!

Although I don't use a proxy, I can see how it would be helpful to have it in LibreTube for bypassing geo-restrictions, and privacy.
If you need it, then it's already a good reason to implement it, if not for many other users, at least for yourself.
Depends on how hard it is to to implement and maintain it, IMHO.

The feature is 90% finished, I will create pull request once passing tests.

The main use case for me is bypassing YouTube IP blocking by using a random proxy with residential egress IP.

As I never use internet without a VPN, that's a real need for me and I've been managing routing using Sagernet fork by wrapping SOCKS5 by Wireguard (proxychain) to prevent plaintext --> So the in-app proxy will be wrapped by design if using Wireguard on system level.

Yes please!
I'm using a commercial VPN provider, YT is basically always inaccessible so this would make it a lot easier to evade the IP block.

tbh I did not properly finish this one and got stale for months lol

I will try asap but in the meanwhile, try Exclave.
I use mullvad configs as main egress and bunnch of routed traffic mainly tranparent procies (residential)
Just remember that both socks and http proxies are plaintext: so use a tls transport or even better use tun2socks (supported on exclave) ---> via proxhychains
some good ones but less flexible than, exclave: wireproxy, tun2socks

Not sure how enclave relates to proxing YT, I currently just use invidious on android as no FOSS client currently seems to support proxies..

On Linux Desktop I use Freetube which already support socks5, my VPN provider has built in socks5 support (with internal routes) that lets me use any of there exit nodes.

I see. I meant you just throw couple of high reputation proxies for whatever needs that (which means literally 0.5% block time be it FOSS or not).

Courious what's your vpn provider. Mullvad (and others like surfshark, nordvpn, etc.) have browser extension some allow routing but can't plug a residential proxy
For desktop it's pretty much handy (foxy proxy on web or smth lile proxifyre for apps, singbox, etc.)
