Error: gundo#GundoToggle is unknown. Apparently, Debian vim I'm using has python3 support, but needs to have python 2 support, or at least that's what I'm getting from the errors. A number of errors only show up briefly and then disappear. I think the problem might be gundo. Not at all certain.
I'm also getting an error "unable to open swap file" for everything I open.
