commit 3d5fe03 upstream. We can end up allocating a new compression stream with GFP_KERNEL from within the IO path, which may result is nested (recursive) IO operations. That can introduce problems if the IO path in question is a reclaimer, holding some locks that will deadlock nested IOs. Allocate streams and working memory using GFP_NOIO flag, forbidding recursive IO and FS operations. An example: inconsistent {IN-RECLAIM_FS-W} -> {RECLAIM_FS-ON-W} usage. git/20158 [HC0[0]:SC0[0]:HE1:SE1] takes: (jbd2_handle){+.+.?.}, at: start_this_handle+0x4ca/0x555 {IN-RECLAIM_FS-W} state was registered at: __lock_acquire+0x8da/0x117b lock_acquire+0x10c/0x1a7 start_this_handle+0x52d/0x555 jbd2__journal_start+0xb4/0x237 __ext4_journal_start_sb+0x108/0x17e ext4_dirty_inode+0x32/0x61 __mark_inode_dirty+0x16b/0x60c iput+0x11e/0x274 __dentry_kill+0x148/0x1b8 shrink_dentry_list+0x274/0x44a prune_dcache_sb+0x4a/0x55 super_cache_scan+0xfc/0x176 shrink_slab.part.14.constprop.25+0x2a2/0x4d3 shrink_zone+0x74/0x140 kswapd+0x6b7/0x930 kthread+0x107/0x10f ret_from_fork+0x3f/0x70 irq event stamp: 138297 hardirqs last enabled at (138297): debug_check_no_locks_freed+0x113/0x12f hardirqs last disabled at (138296): debug_check_no_locks_freed+0x33/0x12f softirqs last enabled at (137818): __do_softirq+0x2d3/0x3e9 softirqs last disabled at (137813): irq_exit+0x41/0x95 other info that might help us debug this: Possible unsafe locking scenario: CPU0 ---- lock(jbd2_handle); <Interrupt> lock(jbd2_handle); *** DEADLOCK *** 5 locks held by git/20158: #0: (sb_writers#7){.+.+.+}, at: [<ffffffff81155411>] mnt_want_write+0x24/0x4b #1: (&type->i_mutex_dir_key#2/1){+.+.+.}, at: [<ffffffff81145087>] lock_rename+0xd9/0xe3 #2: (&sb->s_type->i_mutex_key#11){+.+.+.}, at: [<ffffffff8114f8e2>] lock_two_nondirectories+0x3f/0x6b #3: (&sb->s_type->i_mutex_key#11/4){+.+.+.}, at: [<ffffffff8114f909>] lock_two_nondirectories+0x66/0x6b #4: (jbd2_handle){+.+.?.}, at: [<ffffffff811e31db>] start_this_handle+0x4ca/0x555 stack backtrace: CPU: 2 PID: 20158 Comm: git Not tainted 4.1.0-rc7-next-20150615-dbg-00016-g8bdf555-dirty torvalds#211 Call Trace: dump_stack+0x4c/0x6e mark_lock+0x384/0x56d mark_held_locks+0x5f/0x76 lockdep_trace_alloc+0xb2/0xb5 kmem_cache_alloc_trace+0x32/0x1e2 zcomp_strm_alloc+0x25/0x73 [zram] zcomp_strm_multi_find+0xe7/0x173 [zram] zcomp_strm_find+0xc/0xe [zram] zram_bvec_rw+0x2ca/0x7e0 [zram] zram_make_request+0x1fa/0x301 [zram] generic_make_request+0x9c/0xdb submit_bio+0xf7/0x120 ext4_io_submit+0x2e/0x43 ext4_bio_write_page+0x1b7/0x300 mpage_submit_page+0x60/0x77 mpage_map_and_submit_buffers+0x10f/0x21d ext4_writepages+0xc8c/0xe1b do_writepages+0x23/0x2c __filemap_fdatawrite_range+0x84/0x8b filemap_flush+0x1c/0x1e ext4_alloc_da_blocks+0xb8/0x117 ext4_rename+0x132/0x6dc ? mark_held_locks+0x5f/0x76 ext4_rename2+0x29/0x2b vfs_rename+0x540/0x636 SyS_renameat2+0x359/0x44d SyS_rename+0x1e/0x20 entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath+0x12/0x6f [minchan@kernel.org: add stable mark] Signed-off-by: Sergey Senozhatsky <sergey.senozhatsky@gmail.com> Acked-by: Minchan Kim <minchan@kernel.org> Cc: Kyeongdon Kim <kyeongdon.kim@lge.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

Fix by checking before using. Committer note: This doesn't take place in a kernel that supports perf_event_attr.context_switch, that is the default way that will be used for tracking context switches, only in older kernels, like 4.2, in a machine with Intel PT (e.g. Broadwell) for non-priviledged users. Further info from a similar patch by Wang: The error is in tracepoint_error: it assumes the 'e' parameter is valid. However, there are many situation a parse_event() can be called without parse_events_error. commit d144dfe upstream. If we use USB ID pin as wakeup source, and there is a USB block device on this USB OTG (ID) cable, the system will be deadlock after system resume. The root cause for this problem is: the workqueue ci_otg may try to remove hcd before the driver resume has finished, and hcd will disconnect the device on it, then, it will call device_release_driver, and holds the device lock "dev->mutex", but it is never unlocked since it waits workqueue writeback to run to flush the block information, but the workqueue writeback is freezable, it is not thawed before driver resume has finished. When the driver (device: sd 0:0:0:0:) resume goes to dpm_complete, it tries to get its device lock "dev->mutex", but it can't get it forever, then the deadlock occurs. Below call stacks show the situation. So, in order to fix this problem, we need to change workqueue ci_otg as freezable, then the work item in this workqueue will be run after driver's resume, this workqueue will not be blocked forever like above case since the workqueue writeback has been thawed too. Tested at: i.mx6qdl-sabresd and i.mx6sx-sdb. Guillaume Nault says: ==================== l2tp: fixes for l2tp_ip and l2tp_ip6 socket handling This series addresses problems found while working on commit 32c2311 ("l2tp: fix racy SOCK_ZAPPED flag check in l2tp_ip{,6}_bind()"). The first three patches fix races in socket's connect, recv and bind operations. The last two ones fix scenarios where l2tp fails to correctly lookup its userspace sockets. Apart from the last patch, which is l2tp_ip6 specific, every patch fixes the same problem in the L2TP IPv4 and IPv6 code. All problems fixed by this series exist since the creation of the l2tp_ip and l2tp_ip6 modules. Changes since v1: * Patch linaro-swg#3: fix possible uninitialised use of 'ret' in l2tp_ip_bind(). ==================== Acked-by: James Chapman <jchapman@katalix.com>

Since commit: 4bcc595 ("printk: reinstate KERN_CONT for printing continuation lines") printk() requires KERN_CONT to continue log messages. Lots of printk() in lockdep.c and print_ip_sym() don't have it. As the result lockdep reports are completely messed up. Add missing KERN_CONT and inline print_ip_sym() where necessary. Example of a messed up report: 0-rc5+ linaro-swg#41 Not tainted ------------------------------------------------------- syz-executor0/5036 is trying to acquire lock: ( rtnl_mutex ){+.+.+.} , at: [<ffffffff86b3d6ac>] rtnl_lock+0x1c/0x20 but task is already holding lock: ( &net->packet.sklist_lock ){+.+...} , at: [<ffffffff873541a6>] packet_diag_dump+0x1a6/0x1920 which lock already depends on the new lock. the existing dependency chain (in reverse order) is: -> linaro-swg#3 ( &net->packet.sklist_lock +.+...} ... Without this patch all scripts that parse kernel bug reports are broken. commit 40a50f8 upstream. TPS65217 IRQ domain should be removed and initialised as NULL when the module is unloaded for the next use. When tps65217.ko is loaded again, it causes the page fault. The MMC hosts could be left in an unconsistent or uninitialized state from the firmware. Instead of assuming, the firmware did the right things, let's reset the host controllers. This change fixes a bug when the mmc2/sdio is initialized leading to a hung task: [ 242.704294] INFO: task kworker/7:1:675 blocked for more than 120 seconds. commit cdea465 upstream. A vendor with a system having more than 128 CPUs occasionally encounters the following crash during shutdown. This is not an easily reproduceable event, but the vendor was able to provide the following analysis of the crash, which exhibits the same footprint each time. crash> bt PID: 0 TASK: ffff88017c70ce70 CPU: 5 COMMAND: "swapper/5" #0 [ffff88085c143ac8] machine_kexec at ffffffff81059c8b #1 [ffff88085c143b28] __crash_kexec at ffffffff811052e2 #2 [ffff88085c143bf8] crash_kexec at ffffffff811053d0 linaro-swg#3 [ffff88085c143c10] oops_end at ffffffff8168ef88 linaro-swg#4 [ffff88085c143c38] no_context at ffffffff8167ebb3 linaro-swg#5 [ffff88085c143c88] __bad_area_nosemaphore at ffffffff8167ec49 linaro-swg#6 [ffff88085c143cd0] bad_area_nosemaphore at ffffffff8167edb3 linaro-swg#7 [ffff88085c143ce0] __do_page_fault at ffffffff81691d1e linaro-swg#8 [ffff88085c143d40] do_page_fault at ffffffff81691ec5 linaro-swg#9 [ffff88085c143d70] page_fault at ffffffff8168e188 [exception RIP: unknown or invalid address] RIP: ffffffffa053c800 RSP: ffff88085c143e28 RFLAGS: 00010206 RAX: ffff88017c72bfd8 RBX: ffff88017a8dc000 RCX: ffff8810588b5ac8 RDX: ffff8810588b5a00 RSI: ffffffffa053c800 RDI: ffff8810588b5a00 RBP: ffff88085c143e58 R8: ffff88017c70d408 R9: ffff88017a8dc000 R10: 0000000000000002 R11: ffff88085c143da0 R12: ffff8810588b5ac8 R13: 0000000000000100 R14: ffffffffa053c800 R15: ffff8810588b5a00 ORIG_RAX: ffffffffffffffff CS: 0010 SS: 0018 <IRQ stack> [exception RIP: cpuidle_enter_state+82] RIP: ffffffff81514192 RSP: ffff88017c72be50 RFLAGS: 00000202 RAX: 0000001e4c3c6f16 RBX: 000000000000f8a0 RCX: 0000000000000018 RDX: 0000000225c17d03 RSI: ffff88017c72bfd8 RDI: 0000001e4c3c6f16 RBP: ffff88017c72be78 R8: 000000000000237e R9: 0000000000000018 R10: 0000000000002494 R11: 0000000000000001 R12: ffff88017c72be20 R13: ffff88085c14f8e0 R14: 0000000000000082 R15: 0000001e4c3bb400 ORIG_RAX: ffffffffffffff10 CS: 0010 SS: 0018 This is the corresponding stack trace It has crashed because the area pointed with RIP extracted from timer element is already removed during a shutdown process. commit 48fb6f4 upstream. Commit 65d8fc7 ("futex: Remove requirement for lock_page() in get_futex_key()") removed an unnecessary lock_page() with the side-effect that page->mapping needed to be treated very carefully. Two defensive warnings were added in case any assumption was missed and the first warning assumed a correct application would not alter a mapping backing a futex key. Since merging, it has not triggered for any unexpected case but Mark Rutland reported the following bug triggering due to the first warning. kernel BUG at kernel/futex.c:679! Internal error: Oops - BUG: 0 [#1] PREEMPT SMP Modules linked in: CPU: 0 PID: 3695 Comm: syz-executor1 Not tainted 4.13.0-rc3-00020-g307fec773ba3 linaro-swg#3 Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) task: ffff80001e271780 task.stack: ffff000010908000 PC is at get_futex_key+0x6a4/0xcf0 kernel/futex.c:679 LR is at get_futex_key+0x6a4/0xcf0 kernel/futex.c:679 pc : [<ffff00000821ac14>] lr : [<ffff00000821ac14>] pstate: 80000145 The fact that it's a bug instead of a warning was due to an unrelated arm64 problem, but the warning itself triggered because the underlying mapping changed. This is an application issue but from a kernel perspective it's a recoverable situation and the warning is unnecessary so this patch removes the warning. The warning may potentially be triggered with the following test program from Mark although it may be necessary to adjust NR_FUTEX_THREADS to be a value smaller than the number of CPUs in the system. #include <linux/futex.h> #include <pthread.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <sys/mman.h> #include <sys/syscall.h> #include <sys/time.h> #include <unistd.h> #define NR_FUTEX_THREADS 16 pthread_t threads[NR_FUTEX_THREADS]; void *mem; #define MEM_PROT (PROT_READ | PROT_WRITE) #define MEM_SIZE 65536 static int futex_wrapper(int *uaddr, int op, int val, const struct timespec *timeout, int *uaddr2, int val3) { syscall(SYS_futex, uaddr, op, val, timeout, uaddr2, val3); } void *poll_futex(void *unused) { for (;;) { futex_wrapper(mem, FUTEX_CMP_REQUEUE_PI, 1, NULL, mem + 4, 1); } } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i; mem = mmap(NULL, MEM_SIZE, MEM_PROT, MAP_SHARED | MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0); printf("Mapping @ %p\n", mem); printf("Creating futex threads...\n"); for (i = 0; i < NR_FUTEX_THREADS; i++) pthread_create(&threads[i], NULL, poll_futex, NULL); printf("Flipping mapping...\n"); for (;;) { mmap(mem, MEM_SIZE, MEM_PROT, MAP_FIXED | MAP_SHARED | MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0); } return 0; } Reported-and-tested-by: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Mel Gorman <mgorman@suse.de> Acked-by: Peter Zijlstra (Intel) <peterz@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

[ Upstream commit 120e9da ] syszkaller team reported another problem in DCCP [1] Problem here is that the structure holding RTO timer (ccid2_hc_tx_rto_expire() handler) is freed too soon. We can not use del_timer_sync() to cancel the timer since this timer wants to grab socket lock (that would risk a dead lock) Solution is to defer the freeing of memory when all references to the socket were released. Socket timers do own a reference, so this should fix the issue. Indeed, the lock acquired in uart_put_char() is uport->lock, i.e. not the same lock. Anyway, since the lock is not acquired, if uart_shutdown() is called, the last chunk of that function may release state->xmit.buf before its assigned to null, and cause the race above. To fix it, let's lock uport->lock when allocating/deallocating state->xmit.buf in addition to the per-port mutex. v2: switch to locking uport->lock on allocation/deallocation instead of locking the per-port mutex in uart_put_char. Note that since uport->lock is a spin lock, we have to switch the allocation to GFP_ATOMIC. v3: move the allocation outside the lock, so we can switch back to GFP_KERNEL Signed-off-by: Tycho Andersen <tycho@tycho.ws> Cc: stable <stable@vger.kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

[ Upstream commit e04e7a7 ] This patch fixes the race between netvsc_probe() and rndis_set_subchannel(), which can cause a deadlock. These are the related 3 paths which show the deadlock: path #1: Workqueue: hv_vmbus_con vmbus_onmessage_work [hv_vmbus] Call Trace: schedule schedule_preempt_disabled __mutex_lock __device_attach bus_probe_device device_add vmbus_device_register vmbus_onoffer vmbus_onmessage_work process_one_work worker_thread kthread ret_from_fork path #2: schedule schedule_preempt_disabled __mutex_lock netvsc_probe vmbus_probe really_probe __driver_attach bus_for_each_dev driver_attach_async async_run_entry_fn process_one_work worker_thread kthread ret_from_fork path #3: Workqueue: events netvsc_subchan_work [hv_netvsc] Call Trace: schedule rndis_set_subchannel netvsc_subchan_work process_one_work worker_thread kthread ret_from_fork Before path #1 finishes, path #2 can start to run, because just before the "bus_probe_device(dev);" in device_add() in path #1, there is a line "object_uevent(&dev->kobj, KOBJ_ADD);", so systemd-udevd can immediately try to load hv_netvsc and hence path #2 can start to run. Next, path #2 offloads the subchannal's initialization to a workqueue, i.e. path #3, so we can end up in a deadlock situation like this: Path #2 gets the device lock, and is trying to get the rtnl lock; Path #3 gets the rtnl lock and is waiting for all the subchannel messages to be processed; Path #1 is trying to get the device lock, but since #2 is not releasing the device lock, path #1 has to sleep; since the VMBus messages are processed one by one, this means the sub-channel messages can't be procedded, so #3 has to sleep with the rtnl lock held, and finally #2 has to sleep... Now all the 3 paths are sleeping and we hit the deadlock. With the patch, we can make sure #2 gets both the device lock and the rtnl lock together, gets its job done, and releases the locks, so #1 and #3 will not be blocked for ever. commit 5d407b0 upstream A kernel crash occurrs when defragmented packet is fragmented in ip_do_fragment(). In defragment routine, skb_orphan() is called and skb->ip_defrag_offset is set. but skb->sk and skb->ip_defrag_offset are same union member. so that frag->sk is not NULL. Hence crash occurrs in skb->sk check routine in ip_do_fragment() when defragmented packet is fragmented. test commands: %iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE %hping3 192.168.4.2 -s 1000 -p 2000 -d 60000 splat looks like: [ 261.069429] kernel BUG at net/ipv4/ip_output.c:636! [ Upstream commit 46b3722 ] We occasionaly hit following assert failure in 'perf top', when processing the /proc info in multiple threads. perf: ...include/linux/refcount.h:109: refcount_inc: Assertion `!(!refcount_inc_not_zero(r))' failed. The gdb backtrace looks like this: [Switching to Thread 0x7ffff11ba700 (LWP 13749)] 0x00007ffff50839fb in raise () from /lib64/libc.so.6 (gdb) #0 0x00007ffff50839fb in raise () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #1 0x00007ffff5085800 in abort () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #2 0x00007ffff507c0da in __assert_fail_base () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #3 0x00007ffff507c152 in __assert_fail () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #4 0x0000000000535373 in refcount_inc (r=0x7fffdc009be0) at ...include/linux/refcount.h:109 #5 0x00000000005354f1 in comm_str__get (cs=0x7fffdc009bc0) at util/comm.c:24 #6 0x00000000005356bd in __comm_str__findnew (str=0x7fffd000b260 ":2", root=0xbed5c0 <comm_str_root>) at util/comm.c:72 #7 0x000000000053579e in comm_str__findnew (str=0x7fffd000b260 ":2", root=0xbed5c0 <comm_str_root>) at util/comm.c:95 #8 0x000000000053582e in comm__new (str=0x7fffd000b260 ":2", timestamp=0, exec=false) at util/comm.c:111 #9 0x00000000005363bc in thread__new (pid=2, tid=2) at util/thread.c:57 #10 0x0000000000523da0 in ____machine__findnew_thread (machine=0xbfde38, threads=0xbfdf28, pid=2, tid=2, create=true) at util/machine.c:457 #11 0x0000000000523eb4 in __machine__findnew_thread (machine=0xbfde38, ... The failing assertion is this one: REFCOUNT_WARN(!refcount_inc_not_zero(r), ... The problem is that we keep global comm_str_root list, which is accessed by multiple threads during the 'perf top' startup and following 2 paths can race: thread 1: ... thread__new comm__new comm_str__findnew down_write(&comm_str_lock); __comm_str__findnew comm_str__get thread 2: ... comm__override or comm__free comm_str__put refcount_dec_and_test down_write(&comm_str_lock); rb_erase(&cs->rb_node, &comm_str_root); Because thread 2 first decrements the refcnt and only after then it removes the struct comm_str from the list, the thread 1 can find this object on the list with refcnt equls to 0 and hit the assert. This patch fixes the thread 1 __comm_str__findnew path, by ignoring objects that already dropped the refcnt to 0. For the rest of the objects we take the refcnt before comparing its name and release it afterwards with comm_str__put, which can also release the object completely. commit 3e1a127 upstream. When we disable hotplugging on the GPU, we need to be able to synchronize with each connector's hotplug interrupt handler before the interrupt is finally disabled. This can be a problem however, since nouveau_connector_detect() currently grabs a runtime power reference when handling connector probing. This will deadlock the runtime suspend handler like so: [ 861.480896] INFO: task kworker/0:2:61 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [ Upstream commit 018349d ] When netvsc device is removed it can call reschedule in RCU context. This happens because canceling the subchannel setup work could (in theory) cause a reschedule when manipulating the timer. To reproduce, run with lockdep enabled kernel and unbind a network device from hv_netvsc (via sysfs). On setxattr() syscall path due to an apprent typo the size of a dynamically allocated memory chunk for storing struct smb2_file_full_ea_info object is computed incorrectly, to be more precise the first addend is the size of a pointer instead of the wanted object size. Coincidentally it makes no difference on 64-bit platforms, however on 32-bit targets the following memcpy() writes 4 bytes of data outside of the dynamically allocated memory. ============================================================================= BUG kmalloc-16 (Not tainted): Redzone overwritten ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint INFO: 0x79e69a6f-0x9e5cdecf @offset=368. Fix the deadlock by refactoring the MR cache cleanup flow to flush the workqueue without holding the rb_lock. This adds a race between cache cleanup and creation of new entries which we solve by denied creation of new entries after cache cleanup started. Calling led_trigger_register() when attaching a PHY located on an SFP module potentially (and practically) leads into a deadlock. Fix this by not calling led_trigger_register() for PHYs localted on SFP modules as such modules actually never got any LEDs. ====================================================== WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected 6.7.0-rc4-next-20231208+ #0 Tainted: G O ------------------------------------------------------ kworker/u8:2/43 is trying to acquire lock: ffffffc08108c4e8 (triggers_list_lock){++++}-{3:3}, at: led_trigger_register+0x4c/0x1a8 but task is already holding lock: ffffff80c5c6f318 (&sfp->sm_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: cleanup_module+0x2ba8/0x3120 [sfp] which lock already depends on the new lock. the existing dependency chain (in reverse order) is: -> #3 (&sfp->sm_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}: __mutex_lock+0x88/0x7a0 mutex_lock_nested+0x20/0x28 cleanup_module+0x2ae0/0x3120 [sfp] sfp_register_bus+0x5c/0x9c sfp_register_socket+0x48/0xd4 cleanup_module+0x271c/0x3120 [sfp] platform_probe+0x64/0xb8 really_probe+0x17c/0x3c0 __driver_probe_device+0x78/0x164 driver_probe_device+0x3c/0xd4 __driver_attach+0xec/0x1f0 bus_for_each_dev+0x60/0xa0 driver_attach+0x20/0x28 bus_add_driver+0x108/0x208 driver_register+0x5c/0x118 __platform_driver_register+0x24/0x2c init_module+0x28/0xa7c [sfp] do_one_initcall+0x70/0x2ec do_init_module+0x54/0x1e4 load_module+0x1b78/0x1c8c __do_sys_init_module+0x1bc/0x2cc __arm64_sys_init_module+0x18/0x20 invoke_syscall.constprop.0+0x4c/0xdc do_el0_svc+0x3c/0xbc el0_svc+0x34/0x80 el0t_64_sync_handler+0xf8/0x124 el0t_64_sync+0x150/0x154 -> #2 (rtnl_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}: __mutex_lock+0x88/0x7a0 mutex_lock_nested+0x20/0x28 rtnl_lock+0x18/0x20 set_device_name+0x30/0x130 netdev_trig_activate+0x13c/0x1ac led_trigger_set+0x118/0x234 led_trigger_write+0x104/0x17c sysfs_kf_bin_write+0x64/0x80 kernfs_fop_write_iter+0x128/0x1b4 vfs_write+0x178/0x2a4 ksys_write+0x58/0xd4 __arm64_sys_write+0x18/0x20 invoke_syscall.constprop.0+0x4c/0xdc do_el0_svc+0x3c/0xbc el0_svc+0x34/0x80 el0t_64_sync_handler+0xf8/0x124 el0t_64_sync+0x150/0x154 -> #1 (&led_cdev->trigger_lock){++++}-{3:3}: down_write+0x4c/0x13c led_trigger_write+0xf8/0x17c sysfs_kf_bin_write+0x64/0x80 kernfs_fop_write_iter+0x128/0x1b4 vfs_write+0x178/0x2a4 ksys_write+0x58/0xd4 __arm64_sys_write+0x18/0x20 invoke_syscall.constprop.0+0x4c/0xdc do_el0_svc+0x3c/0xbc el0_svc+0x34/0x80 el0t_64_sync_handler+0xf8/0x124 el0t_64_sync+0x150/0x154 -> #0 (triggers_list_lock){++++}-{3:3}: __lock_acquire+0x12a0/0x2014 lock_acquire+0x100/0x2ac down_write+0x4c/0x13c led_trigger_register+0x4c/0x1a8 phy_led_triggers_register+0x9c/0x214 phy_attach_direct+0x154/0x36c phylink_attach_phy+0x30/0x60 phylink_sfp_connect_phy+0x140/0x510 sfp_add_phy+0x34/0x50 init_module+0x15c/0xa7c [sfp] cleanup_module+0x1d94/0x3120 [sfp] cleanup_module+0x2bb4/0x3120 [sfp] process_one_work+0x1f8/0x4ec worker_thread+0x1e8/0x3d8 kthread+0x104/0x110 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 other info that might help us debug this: Chain exists of: triggers_list_lock --> rtnl_mutex --> &sfp->sm_mutex Possible unsafe locking scenario: CPU0 CPU1 ---- ---- lock(&sfp->sm_mutex); lock(rtnl_mutex); lock(&sfp->sm_mutex); lock(triggers_list_lock); *** DEADLOCK *** 4 locks held by kworker/u8:2/43: #0: ffffff80c000f938 ((wq_completion)events_power_efficient){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: process_one_work+0x150/0x4ec #1: ffffffc08214bde8 ((work_completion)(&(&sfp->timeout)->work)){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: process_one_work+0x150/0x4ec #2: ffffffc0810902f8 (rtnl_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: rtnl_lock+0x18/0x20 #3: ffffff80c5c6f318 (&sfp->sm_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: cleanup_module+0x2ba8/0x3120 [sfp] stack backtrace: CPU: 0 PID: 43 Comm: kworker/u8:2 Tainted: G O 6.7.0-rc4-next-20231208+ #0 Hardware name: Bananapi BPI-R4 (DT) Workqueue: events_power_efficient cleanup_module [sfp] Call trace: dump_backtrace+0xa8/0x10c show_stack+0x14/0x1c dump_stack_lvl+0x5c/0xa0 dump_stack+0x14/0x1c print_circular_bug+0x328/0x430 check_noncircular+0x124/0x134 __lock_acquire+0x12a0/0x2014 lock_acquire+0x100/0x2ac down_write+0x4c/0x13c led_trigger_register+0x4c/0x1a8 phy_led_triggers_register+0x9c/0x214 phy_attach_direct+0x154/0x36c phylink_attach_phy+0x30/0x60 phylink_sfp_connect_phy+0x140/0x510 sfp_add_phy+0x34/0x50 init_module+0x15c/0xa7c [sfp] cleanup_module+0x1d94/0x3120 [sfp] cleanup_module+0x2bb4/0x3120 [sfp] process_one_work+0x1f8/0x4ec worker_thread+0x1e8/0x3d8 kthread+0x104/0x110 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 Signed-off-by: Daniel Golle <daniel@makrotopia.org> Fixes: 01e5b72 ("net: phy: Add a binding for PHY LEDs") Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/102a9dce38bdf00215735d04cd4704458273ad9c.1702339354.git.daniel@makrotopia.org Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

Whenever a wake up source configures an IRQ through irq_set_irq_wake, it will lock the corresponding IRQ desc, and then call irq_set_irq_wake on "parent" IRQ which will do the same on its own IRQ desc, but since those two locks share the same class, lockdep reports this as an issue. Fix lockdep false positive by setting a different class for parent and children IRQ Fixes: 7761808 ("pinctrl: introduce driver for Atmel PIO4 controller") Signed-off-by: Alexis Lothoré <alexis.lothore@bootlin.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20231215-lockdep_warning-v1-1-8137b2510ed5@bootlin.com Signed-off-by: Linus Walleij <linus.walleij@linaro.org>

For rq, we have three cases getting buffers from virtio core: 1. virtqueue_get_buf{,_ctx} 2. virtqueue_detach_unused_buf 3. callback for virtqueue_resize But in commit 295525e("virtio_net: merge dma operations when filling mergeable buffers"), I missed the dma unmap for the #3 case. That will leak some memory, because I did not release the pages referred by the unused buffers. If we do such script, we will make the system OOM. while true do ethtool -G ens4 rx 128 ethtool -G ens4 rx 256 free -m done Fixes: 295525e ("virtio_net: merge dma operations when filling mergeable buffers") Signed-off-by: Xuan Zhuo <xuanzhuo@linux.alibaba.com> Acked-by: Michael S.
