How to install?

Hello, would be nice to add a section on How to install Hypnotix in different Distros.
Currently I tried to install it both in Fedora both in Debian and I did not succed unfortunately

I was able to install it on Debian (trixie) however it does not find any content while it was working fine with a Linux Mint live usb stick. It found all content after I "edited" the Free-TV. Did not make any change to the url but it loaded successfully only after saving.

• Install dependencies: apt install python3-unidecode gir1.2-xapp-1.0
• For circle-flags-svg I downloaded the deb from https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/mint_main/una/main/base/circle-flags-svg
• Download the deb from https://github.com/linuxmint/hypnotix/releases/download/master.lmde6/packages.tar.gz
• Install those via:
  • dpkg -i circle-flags-svg_2.3.0_all.deb
  • dpkg -i hypnotix_3.6_all.deb

If you want more channels to watch I suggest you to search and add a .M3U link with the channels you want to watch

Please note that I am very new to Debian and mainly use Arch-based distribution, so forgive me if I say something wrong.

As I suspected it is not possible/safe to directly install pip packages system-wide (Arch has a similar approach).
Following is the output from pip3 install IMDbPY

If I remember correctly the package name I installed was python3-dev, to make sure just run:
apt search python3 and choose the package you want to install

My .deb installer tells me what umet dependancies are required. I had to install 4 packages + hypnotix = 5 total packages. They're all small packages though < 400kb total

What worked for me (on Debian 12) was to download circle-flags-svg xapps-common libxapp1 gir1.2-xapp-1.0 hypnotix from http://packages.linuxmint.com/ and install them in that order.

(some say downloading w/ browser from the website is not secure, so get them some other way if you don't want to take the risk)

Flatpak version would be better. https://flatpak.org/setup

Please tell me, for version 5.0 to work, what versions of the python3-imdbpy and circle-flags-svg packages are needed and where is the best place to get them?

I use two PCs with Ubuntu 24.04 and 24.10.

Hi @nafanz , from what I see, you're installing packages due to unmet dependencies.
Install the .deb packages from the Linux Mint repository at the following address:

https://packages.linuxmint.com

I managed to install it on Ubuntu 24.04, as follows.

http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/c/circle-flags/circle-flags-svg_2.7.0_all.deb
Apparently the stable version is Linux Mint 22.1 Xia, so I chose the package for it.

sudo apt install ./circle-flags-svg_2.7.0_all.deb
sudo add-apt-repository 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/stefanlobbenmeier/hypnotix/ubuntu noble main'
sudo apt install hypnotix

I'll try to repeat this on another PC with Ubuntu 24.10 this weekend.

Hi @nafanz , from what I see, you're trying to install Hypnotix with a Noble PPA on 24.10, and you shouldn't be using it that way.
Use the Hypnotix .deb to avoid those problems. This is how I use it, but on 25.04.

Hello @nafanz , I recommend that you install the imdb dependencies with python, with apt or pip: python3-imdbpy

Because if you install the python .deb and it needs dependencies, it won't have them.

You can find out which dependencies you need by checking the .deb with: dpkg -I name-package-deb.deb
