Bug description
Desktop icons are not positioned correctly after moving (or copying) from an open folder window to the desktop.
Using "List View", icons are generally positioned several grid positions to the right. This applies to movement of an icon for a folder or file. The only exception relates to the copying of a folder from the open folder window to the desktop. In that case, the folder icon for the copied folder is placed in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
Using "Icon View", all seems to work as expected except that copying a folder from the open folder window causes the folder icon for the copied folder to be placed in the upper left-hand corner of the screen (same as when using “List View” as discussed above).
This causes confusion and can result in the icon being hidden by the open folder window in some instances (e.g., if the icon is offset to the right after being moved/copied to the left of the open folder window).
Steps to reproduce
- Open a folder on the desktop and either place a file/folder in that folder or create a new file/folder in the folder (first screenshot attached below)
- Attempt to move or copy the file/folder onto the desktop (second and third screenshots attached below)
- Observe that the icon for the moved/copied file/folder has not been placed in the expected position (fourth screenshot attached below)
Expected behavior
The icon for the moved/copied file/folder should be placed in the nearest open grid position on desktop closest to where it was attempted to be placed (e.g., as defined by the cursor position when releasing the drag and executing the move/copy of the file/folder).
Additional information
This may be affected by the desktop icon/grid settings. The "Current Monitor Layout" settings are shown in each of the previously-mentioned screenshots. Additionally, the desktop-grid-adjust values can be seen in the screenshot attached below.
