Trying to add SimpleChat to Freefrom View

I'm trying to get SimpleChat to open in a customized freeform view. However, once SimpleChat is initialized it creates a new view, that is the maximum size. For example, I have a freeform view of 500x768. Then once I activate SimpleChat using the "Tap to Comment" from the sample code, the SimpleChat view opens in the full 1024x768.

Great code by the way, and I appreciate any thoughts on this.

Glad you like it! I think the problem is because when I size the various elements, they're all based off of a couple functions: ScreenWidth() and ScreenHeight(). Both of which return the size of the device's screen

I hadn't considered non-fullscreen implementations, so these are baked fairly thoroughly into the current code. I don't imagine fixing it should be too hard, but with my current schedule, I won't be able to dig into until at least this weekend.

If you can't wait, I'd suggest just changing all of the implementations of the functions I mentioned. My plan is to do a global search and see what I can do to replace them with parameters based on their container's size as opposed to the screen's size.

Let me know if you find a workable solution before I do!

Thanks for the quick response. I tried changing the ScreenHeight and ScreenWidth to that of my freeform view, 500x768. However, a new view was still created. And the new frame of 500x768, didn't property display the chat interface, basically just cutting off most of the screen where the chats would display.

Did you try just setting the values directly in MyMacros.h

I just replaced:

static inline int ScreenHeight(){ return [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.height; }
static inline int ScreenWidth(){ return [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.width; }

With:

static inline int ScreenHeight(){ return 768; }
static inline int ScreenWidth(){ return 500; }

And I was able to get it to at least size properly. Rotations weren't properly sizing, but it might provide a quick fix if you don't alter orientations a lot.

I tried those changes, but it the chat interface still loads in a new view. I'm trying to keep the orientations in landscape. In my project, the Menu2ViewController, with the red background (when you slide the right side of the first view out), is where I'm trying to have the chat controller.

Ok, I understand what you're doing now, and I was able to get it working!

Step 1: In MyMacros.h the values were reversed for landscape. Instead, use this:

static inline int ScreenWidth(){ return 768; }

Step 1: In Menu2ViewController.m replace:

[self presentViewController:_chatController animated:YES completion:nil];

With:

_chatController.view.frame = CGRectMake(self.view.bounds.size.width, 0, -480, 768); // 480 fits better
[self.view addSubview:_chatController.view];

This isn't really the way it was to designed to be used, but for your situation, it should work. One thing I notice right away that changes is the back button to dismiss. You'll have to implement your own custom solution for this. Currently it dismisses itself as a viewController, but because it's not being presented as a viewController, it will need to be dismissed as a view somewhere. There's already an optional delegate method for closing, so you could add this as well to Menu2ViewController.m in the ChatController Delegate section:

    [chatController.view removeFromSuperview];
}

I don't think this is a universal enough feature that I would add it to the master branch, but it should solve your specific problem.
