Creating a new link is incredibly slow and oftentimes doesn't happen

What Happened?

Basically, if I type [[]] and start typing text for the link, a lot of times, the menu with the possible selections doesn't pop up and I am left typing things out without the menu. I think it's connected to this latest update really slowing things down.

Reproduce the Bug

1. Type out "[[]]" and start typing quickly.
2. Menu doesn't appear as expected, and doesn't appear even if you wait.

Expected Behavior

Menu appears.
