gradle vs java -jar run

Hi. I really love the library, really great.
What i'm trying to do is to run an example app by running ./gradlew run on my project, but the output i'm getting is not good at all.

But when I run it by executing the java -jar command then everything works fine.

Any ideas?

Maybe quiet flag will help: ./gradlew --quiet [...] (https://docs.gradle.org/current/userguide/command_line_interface.html)

Looks like gradle forum isn't very active, or doesn't know, either.

To me, it looks like gradle either doesn't provide a real & transparent tty-device, or just limited ANSI-support. Therefore, the "stty" unix command apparently cannot do its work properly (it's the "^[[B..." that leads me to that conclusion), and lanterna gets no reply from gradle for it's terminal-size query.

I don't really understand what you are trying to do here... Is it just running one of the example classes through gradle instead of manually with java or through the IDE? In that case, not really sure what Gradle does with your terminal; you'd think starting the screen would clear everything and you'd be fine, but if the tty logic in lanterna can't find the right tty to operate on because of gradle then yeah, you'd get the behavior above. You can try to debug the UnixLikeTTYTerminal class in lanterna (or make it print addition diagnostics to a file) to see if the commands differ between plain java and gradle.

Personally, I run the examples from IntelliJ. If I need to run them in pure terminal mode, I usually run java straight from the command line.
