GNUPG integration (mailvelope v3.0)

I have gnupg as a part of git for windows, but mailvelope thinks it's not installed. Is it possible to configure it?

@sbriskin what version of GnuPG do you have installed?

For Window: try Gpg4win 3.1.5

For GNU systems: you shall have GPGME at least with version 1.12.0 from 2018-10-09.

Don't know if it's the same problem, but in Mailvelope settings, the Prefer GnuPG for all OpenPGP encryption operations option is not clickable, and Not available is shown next to the option.

gpg works well inside a CLI though.

Please let me know if I should open another issue.

Gpg4win: v3.1.5 (installed with Chocolatey)
Browser: Firefox v63.0.3
OS: Windows 10

Yes, with Gpg4win it works fine.
On linux i have

libgpgme11:
  Installed: 1.12.0-4

but that's not enough as i can see.

So let us see about GNU/Linux: Note that you'll also need gpgme-json and a configuration to make this available to your webbrowser. Possibly the package of libgpgme does not provide some of this by default. Can you give more details about your GNU/Linux distribution?

In the Gpg4win 3.1.5 installer, you need to actively select the GnuPG native messaging component for installation. My guess is that Chocolatey did only do the default install without it.

So is this bundled in gpg? And what "configuration" does one need?
This feature seriously lacks of documentation on how to set it up…

For GNU/Linux, the packagers should include the component and somehow let the users decide if they want that configuration done. We are working to document this better for packagers and other interested people. Meanwhile you could ask on the gnupg-users mailinglists if you do not want to wait for your GNU/Linux distribution to get this right (or even if you want to help getting this done. :) )

I'm using Debian Sid. libgpgme is not enough for mailvelope, so i built latest gpgme from sources and now it work fine.
But in my opinion this is too hard for ordinary user. Installing dev-tools and it's dependencies, node.js and it's dependencies just for one binary and one js lib - not a trivial task.

Yeah it obviously needs to be packaged by Linux distros…

very, very brief HOWTO for Chrome on GNU/Linux:

1. make sure you have gpgme 1.12.x and /usr/bin/gpgme-json installed. If your Linux distribution has an older gpgme or does not ship gpgme-json, you have to compile and install gpgme-json yourself,
2. get gpgme-chrome.json from the gpgme source,
3. copy gpgme-chrome.json to /etc/opt/chrome/native-messaging-hosts/gpgmejson.json

Restart Chrome and enjoy.

There is no need to install node.js to build gpgme. node.js would only be needed to build the sample browser plugin, but all you need is gpgme-json and that builds fine without node.js.
